Review summary

I've been on 10 cruises, some of them NCL, and this is by far the worst customer service I have ever experience at sea. The staff, all the way from the guest service desk to the library attendant acted like every time you asked them a question or for help that you were bothering them. I don't think NCL corporate would like how this ship is operated, even the muster drill was disorganized as I witnessed a family with small children get yelled at because the youngest child was playing on their parents phone while waiting to be dismissed. The weather was horrible and the staff made no effort to create additional indoor activities so much of the time we stayed in the room as the public areas were crowded with people staring at trivia on the big screen. The ship is very nice and the food was fantastic, that's about all I can say that was positive. But I doubt I will be taking NCL again for a long time.

Thanks for sharing your cruise.

it seems that there are issues on many NCL ships now... I have complained to corp headquarters... I hope they listen to their customers more or Carnival will get more crowded. we have sailed them many times with little complains.

DelRio founded Oceania.

Brian you are right like I said they need to get rid of him

Brian148    8 years ago

where did he come from because it seems like he's spending a crap load of money and trying to get his guests to pay for it. with higher rates and upcharges

nili    8 years ago

we need to get Kevin back this guy doesn't care if the customers are unhappy.

16 seems like plenty of elevators. We didn't encounter any issue there. The new CEO has an impressive track record and since he stated he plans to raise prices he'd better raise the bar as well or sales won't be there.

Brian148    8 years ago

yes they do I was only on the pride and it had more elevators but it also seemed inadequate at times because of people being lazy

clferr    8 years ago

breakaway is a 4000+ ship and two sets of elevators when you are boarding just didnt work. we ended up hauling our stuff up two flights. at least carnival ships have more for less people.

Brian148    8 years ago

definitely agree nili hopefully in the end this new ceo knows what he is doing and the changes pay off

I to like carnival but they don't need more elevators they need to put a 2 floor minimum some how people use it to go one or two floors when you have perfectly good stairs. don't watch much tv on a cruise but you can get sling tv and watch TV on a WiFi device and the lights they are all doing that the new carnival ship coming in November will have the card slot for electricity so get use to it. you can use any card I use my carnival room card for Norwegian and I always leave 10 bucks a day in my room for a tip they will not take your card out and they will take much better care of you just saying 10 bucks a day goes a long way

we were on the breakaway in feb, 1st time on ncl. they need more elevators, covered pools, better selections on tv,and that stupid thing with using a card to keep room powered is a pain. husband had an issue with chicken at the Japanese hibachi place, said it was undercooked. we prefer smaller ships and mostly cruise carnival. they did however upgrade us to a mini suite which was nice, but was over the jazz club!

it seems the service has gone down since the new CEO took over both the staff and customers are unhappy

esprit    8 years ago

You're right, it's all about attitude. Thanks for your insight on the comparison.

it's all of what you make of it but going on the breakaway for convenience and we have a group of 14 family and friends but I didn't let little things like destroy my trips. the carnival pride is much smaller less crowded and I would say more laid back. entertainment on the breakaway is much better also the Waterpark rope course and specialty restaurants are much better on the breakaway. but I would say worker's are better on carnival it seemed they were less worked so in return more friendly

brian148..i see you are going again on breakaway despite the service concerns and have been on carnival recently. How were they vs Breakaway?

Brian148    8 years ago

agree I went on the breakaway 2 years ago when it was new. stayed in the heaven and I spent about 8000 for 4 people loved the room and vip boarding but customer service sucked but ship was very nice with lots to do but it did seem to shutdown early.

"esprit " thank you for following me

while there is no excuse for crappy service, the use of electronic devices during a muster drill is prohibited by federal law. Ncl has some issues to resolve but frankly they all do. I read the recent comments on Royal, Celebrity and Princess..same complaints about service. Breakaway has more children aboard than most which seems to be an issue to a few.

I agree.
