Review summary

This was my first time cruising with NCL on the Breakaway but my ninth cruise. Let me say that the cruise ship and overall experience was a major disappointment. Although the embarkation from NYC went smooth and it is nice to sail out of NYC.. My first impression of the ship was that it was overcrowded and poorly designed to accommodate over 4,000 passengers particularly on the pool deck. The pool and jacquzzi areas were ridiculous and the only time you could use them was when everyone was off the ship at port in Bermuda. It was also very loud and rowdy. The food and service in the main dining rooms was poor. Unless you made a reservation for a large party at 5:30 you were not seated for over and hour. On average we spent over 2hrs a night in dining room and didn't even have time for dessert if we wanted to try to see a show. Even when we did reserve in advance for seating due to the extensive delays in the dining hall we were late for the show and didn't get seats. My mother who is in a wheelchair did not get a seat on more than one occasion due to people sitting in handicap seats in both the theater and dining halls. All the shore excursions were all sold out immediately and over priced. The crowds were unimaginable with people constantly running into each other in the buffet dining and elevator jammed. I also did not find the crew very accessible or greeting the passenger including the cruise director. We took advantage of the drink promotion only to be charged extra gratuities. I have been on even bigger ships with Royal Caribbean and never experienced these problems. I also have cruised with Carnival and Disney and had much better and pleasant experiences. I think the freestyle dining is not feasible for people traveling with large families and maybe Norwegian needs to review this and consider arranged times for seating again. Also even for a relatively new ship the Breakaway lacked appeal and was nothing spectacular as far as their main lobby or atrium. I will not sail again on any NCL again due such poor service and all the additional fees it was not worth it. Also a lot of people smoking on ship where there should be designated areas. The jackpot bingo was also a disappointment as this is the first cruise I've been on where nobody won the jackpot on the last game. This is very wrong as the passengers who contributed to these winnings were not entitled to the jackpot winnings. Due to my poor experience I not consider another cruise with NCL  but will continue to cruise with other cruise lines who appreciate my business. Chrissy cruiser

I have had the ubp on Norwegian and the only time I was charged extra for the drinks was in port....As far as the people go...you should always research your ship before you book....they clearly tell you that the ship accommodates 4000 cruisers....sorry that your experience was bad

We are here now still in Bermuda. Pool is WAY too small for the amount of people. Got in yesterday 6 ft. if salt water..and just a little too urban for me.

I am so sorry that you did not enjoy your cruise.  A think that a smaller ship would suit you better.  Thanks for posting your review here.
