Review summary

Great cruise with lots of fun activities, but I do not recommend purchasing a beverage package. I made the mistake and feel it had a very negative impact on my cruising experience because I felt a strong desire to 'get my moneys worth' out of the package - basically I was always drunk or hungover. Which isn't what I was looking for or anticipating for this cruise.

Onboard Activities

There were too many Bingo and Deal or No Deal games. Should have branched out more.

Some really great shows!

Marciel who worked as a bartender at O'Sheehan's was excellent! Other bartenders seemed very slow with service.

Cocoa Village was cute but much too small for a truely amazing visit. I would recommend splurging on one of the theme parks in FL.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

My wife does not drink. With the requirement for everyone in cabin to buy a card, which I do understand this leaves me out. No way I could drink over $100 and stay married. 😎

I don't drink enough of any beverage to make it worthwhile for me.  Everyone has to do the math for himself.

With most companies and their packages you can buy them up to I think a couple days out from the end of the cruise - pro-rated of course.

But to the OP it is not the drink packages nor the cruise lines fault that you were drunk or hung over most the cruise. Yes YOU felt YOU needed to get your monies worth of the package and therefore YOU drank more than YOU normally would leaving you hung over. But at the end of the day it was YOUR fault. YOU didn't do your research prior to purchasing the package to see if it was worth it for what you would drink.

For some people the package is brilliant, for others pointless.

On RCI they sold a drink package to some of our dinner mates with only 3 days left on a 14 night cruise.

If this is the case all over, then I'm going to bow out of the package. I wonder if it's true that even after the cruise leaves, the bartenders and waiters try to sell you a pro rated package. If so, I would like to hear about the experiences from cruisers.

Carnival and RCI also require all in the cabin to get the same drink package so your not sharing one.

Correct me if I am wrong but Norwegian requires all people staying in the same cabin to purchase UBP. I do not believe it is worthwhile with that requirement.

There will always be discussions about the drink package. I will want to explore that option more closely before my next cruise.

think about it, the UB is $120 a ROOM PER DAY.  That's a log of alcohol especially if go out on the port days and you are not on the ship.  Unless you really like to drink 10 drinks a day, you are better off ala carte on the alcohol.  the $14 a day for the non-alcohol drinks (pepsi, juices, seltzer) is worth it for me however.
