Review summary

This was the first real vacation since COVID started. I was a little apprehensive at first, but NCL had a lot of precautions in place to make us feel safe. Once we passed our COVID test during embarking, we were not required to wear a mask on board. The crew all wore masks and were fully vaccinated. For 2021 sailings, NCL was only sailing with at most 60% guest capacity. On our sailing, we were at 30% (around 1700 guests). It was nice to have the space, no lines or crowded elevators. It felt like we had returned to normalcy while onboard. While in the various ports , we were (of course) required to adhere to any local mask mandates. We only had to show our cruise cards at the ports, though we did carry our passports with us.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We were all tested (as well as required to be fully vaccinated) during the embarkation process. You had to test negative in order to board the ship. The process was highly organized! We all had time slots to arrive for the process and testing. It was a smooth and painless process. Kudos to the NCL staff.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We tried a fair amount of the restaurants and enjoyed every one! Everything was open.

Teppanyaki

5 out of 5

If you like going to Habachi restaurants, this is a must dine! So much fun and the food was stupendous! Highly recommended.

Garden Café

5 out of 5

The washy washy song they would sing each time we would enter the Cafe was fun and upbeat, reminding everyone to wash their hands. The food was great and all the stations were open. My only complaint (if you can call it one), it's they bussed the tables too quickly at times. I would get up to get dessert and my table was cleared (one time taking my bottle of water). But they fixed their error.

Savor Restaurant - Main Dining Room

5 out of 5

I had breakfast here a couple mornings and we had dinner here as a group once. Both services had delicious food and very attentive staff. One morning we were treated to dolphins swimming next to the ship.

The Observation Lounge

5 out of 5

What a great spot to relax and have great views! It was great spot to read, play a board game with friends, or just shoot and chat ... or even take a nap. The was good food to be sampled as well. Also a full service bar.

The Manhattan Room - Main Dining Room

5 out of 5

We had dinner here a couple nights and the food was excellent. We dressed business casual with bling. The service was impeccable. Everyone was very attentive.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I wish I had more time to all the activities I wanted to do. So many great and fun things to choose from.

Bliss Casino

5 out of 5

The staff and dealers made it a really fun experience (whether or not we won money that night). The dealers and floors made me feel welcome each evening and recognized me and called me by name after the first night. They always had a great attitude and I could tell they were smiling under their masks. Great time!

Mandara Spa

5 out of 5

I purchased a Thermal Spa Suite pass and I am so happy I did. It was a great way to unwind after a day at the port or hang out when others in your group went ashore. The heated bed were divine. And the whirlpool and jacuzzi was so relaxing.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We saw Six at the Theater and the comedy show. Both are highly recommended! Get tickets early because they will sell out ... even on a partially full ship.

Bliss Theater

5 out of 5

We saw the show Six. I highly recommend it. Very entertaining.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent service all around! Everyone really made us feel welcome and tended to all our requests. They even remembered or likes and dislikes in our group. The staff at the jewelry store went up and above with our charm bracelets. For example, the day of the stopper charm, one of the staff went through probably 50 charms before finding ones that actually acted like stoppers for the other charms. We made friends with some of the people working there and they said hi each time we walked by the area throughout the day.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Not a trashcan in sight but no trash littering the floor either. The layout and all the amenities were above our expectations. The ship was well thought out and beautiful.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
With three ladies staying in the cabin each with two pieces of luggage, we wondered how we would fit everything, but we did it and it looked tidy in the room. The organization that is built into the cabins is amazing from the pullout drawer under the sofa to the cabinets in the desk area and shelves in the closet! We were surprised how much space we had for our stuff. The balcony in our room was a little larger because we were in a little corner. It also offered a bit more privacy. The beds (even the sofa bed) were very comfortable. And the bathroom was roomy and shower stall bigger than some other cabins.

Ship tip

If you are going back for seconds at the buffet (and returning to your table), leave your silverware on the table if you cannot find a server to let know you will be back. Or leave a jacket on your chair. They bus the tables quickly and if you just walk away, your table will be cleaned off and you will lose your drinks. Even water that you purchased in those liter containers.

Ports of call

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

2 out of 5
There was a Walmart, a Costco and a casino across the street from where the ship docked. No other shopping. The casino did not allow bills to be put into the slot machines and there were no table games.

Mazatlan, Mexico

4 out of 5
Though this had the best sounding excursion: salsa and salsa, we were only there from 7 - 2. Learning to make salsa, drinking margaritas and learning to dance the salsa in the morning was not appealing. There was a local shopping area very near the pier that the tram took us to. Lots of booths with souvenirs.

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

3 out of 5
We only ventured out for dinner and only via Uber/Left because the area did not seem very safe to just walk around like tourists sometimes do. But we were only there for the evening before. The Italian restaurant we went to was very good!

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Went to Sammy Hagar's restaurant. It was a long walk from the pier, but we got a pedi-cab on the way back.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Another very smoothly run process! The color-coded luggage tags for disembarkation times made it easy. Choosing the time we wanted to leave enabled us to be able to plan enough time for breakfast without feeling rushed.

The port is dull; next time, try Pier 22 restaurant.
