We had a very nice time. Being in our 50's it was strange to be among the youngest people on the cruise. There were a lot inconsiderate people who parked their scooters in hallways making passage difficult. The staff was nice but inexperienced and could not answer simple questions. The reservation system is flawed as reservations were not available at times where the restaurants were nearly empty. Their technology is not as integrated as it should be. Some things need to be done on the app, some on the TV in the room and some on the touch screens in the hallways. It would be nice if you could use one form of technology and be able to access everything.
Despite the minor annoyances mentioned above, the trip was great. The itinerary was excellent and the weather was perfect.
Embarkation
1 out of 5
Embarkation was terrible. We were supposed to have priority boarding but no one who worked at the cruise port knew where to send us. It literally took two hours on line to get checked in.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Savor and Taste always had a long wait to get in. The Manhattan Room was better but was not open during the day. The food was ok but not much variety.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
I took a couple of classes at the gym and we tried the race cars. The classes were ok, not great. The race cars are not run well. There were very few reservations available. When the track was open and no one was riding they would not let you ride without a reservation but you could not get a reservation. The track was unused most of our cruise even though the weather was fine.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Jersey Boys was excellent. Six was good. I had tickets for Prohibition that they kept cancelling without explanation which was disappointing because I was really looking forward to it.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Most of the staff could not answer any of my questions regarding the TV in the room, Cruise Next or excursions. They did not seem as well trained as the staff on the Gem.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The ship was very clean. Did not like the design of 6-7-8. The passageway goes right through the center of the Local and caused a lot of congestion. The restaurants seemed very small compared to other ships.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The cabin was excellent!! The bed was right next to the window. There was lots of storage. The bathroom was also nice.
Ship tip
Go to the restaurants at the time you want even if you don't have a reservation. Most of the restaurants have lots of open tables even when reservations are not available.
The port area was much better than the last time we were in Jamaica. There is a nice Margaritaville with a pool and beach right at the dock. We climbed Dunns River Falls which was a lot of fun.
Grand Cayman seems much more modern than other islands. We went on the Whitehouse Beach excursion. Hands down the best Pina Colada that I have ever had! The resort was nice and lunch was ok but you could not swim from the beach. You were only allowed into the water from the dock, it seemed kind of dangerous. There was also a pool at the resort that was nice.
Roatan was the least affluent island that we stopped at. We went on the Turquoise Bay excursion. It was a long drive from the boat! The resort was nice and we had an ok lunch. The beach was very nice.
Even more beautiful than Great Stirrup Cay!!! The beach was beautiful and there was an amazing pool. The only downside was that food/drinks were not included.
Our excursion (catamaran) was cancelled at this port due to high winds. We spent the day at the port. There is good shopping here and lots of pools that you can use as long as you are a patron of one of the restaurants. We enjoyed lunch and a drink at one of the restaurants and floated in their pool all day.
One of our bags was mixed in with other luggage and it took us a long time to find it. The employees at the cruise port are not helpful or friendly at all. It took us 1-1/2 hour to locate our bag. On the flip side, the people at customs were wonderful and we were through in mere seconds. They use visual recognition so we did not have to talk to a customs agent or show our passports.
