Review summary

We chose this cruise because it included a port (Haines) we had never been to before. The staff on this ship was really great. I liked that the ship never felt crowded to me except for the boat drill of course)... people must have been well distributed in the various parts of the ship. We had AMAZING weather the whole week of our cruise, which definitely made the port experiences nicer. The only issue we had (DVD player in cabin didn't work) was resolved within 24 hrs.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food and service both excellent in main dining room and Pinnacle Grille. Lots of options; even our "picky" vegetarian was happy!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Walking the promenade (or just lounging on the promenade and watching the sights), ping pong, pool, gym, bingo, playing games/getting a coffee/macaroon from explorations cafe, getting ice cream snacks in the Lido.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We really enjoyed the magician and the comedian. Didn't enjoy the song/dance shows as much; the caliber of the cast was not as good as over cruise shows I've seen.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We had an entertaining cruise director (Taylor) who helped make everything fun. Outstanding dining steward, Dwipa, and his assistant, Dedit. Also had great cabin stewards: Dewa and Ani. We were constantly being surprised with something extra to try in the dining room and fun towel animals in our cabin.

Ship Quality

great ship design... never felt crowded. Everything was clean. There were a few areas that seemed dinged up.

Cabin / Stateroom

Ship tip

Let your cabin steward know if you need anything. We arranged on the first day to have an extra ice bucket which they filled for us twice a day.

Ports of call

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

4 out of 5
Had the smoothest/fastest embarkation experience EVER in Seward. Got there around 1pm. No wait. Didn't spend much time in town, but if I were to go again, I'd do one of the boat trips to the fjords.

Haines, Alaska

Lovely little town! We rented a car from Captain's Choice Motel and explored the Haines Highway and did a hike in Chilkat State Park.

Juneau, Alaska

Walked around town and up to Cope Park. Nice walk (if you like hills) through residential area to get to the park, plus a stream runs through the park that is really pretty.

Ketchikan, Alaska

We took a local bus to Ward Lake and did a little hike around the lake. It was a fun adventure that got us out of the crowded town.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

Loved Vancouver. Did a tour (not through HAL) up to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and got to see lots of sights along the way.
