Review summary

The night before disembark we were informed we were randomly selected by customs for an interview at 5:45a. We showed up at the appointed time- only to stand around around for 30m because no one was telling anyone what to do. Finally 2 fellows wearing Holland uniforms with Cumtoms emblems on the shoulders showed up and started telling individuals they could go. I finally worked my way over to one of them- he asked me where I lived- and tolded me I could go I did not need to be there they only needed Canadian residents. That information would have been in the Holland computer and could have avoided the whole problem of dragging a hundred people out of bed that early for no reason. Scheduling cruise ships in port on holidays when the city is closed does not give the passenger much to do- I would think Holland has enough people and computers working that they could adjust schedules by a day to accommodate. Also, just because a port has a deep harbor does mean that’s a good port for a cruise ship to visit, there needs to be something in the port for visitors. Ports miles from town are not good ports either, some ports will provide a shuttle service to get passengers into town, others do not, if not passengers may say forget I’ll keep my money.

Embarkation

Disastrous, 2000 people were instructed to show up at the same time 2000 people were trying to get out, and the man in charge had no idea what he was doing, except yelling at people.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was good but not exceptional.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I do not cruise for activities

Entertainment

I do not cruise for entertainment

Children's Programs

Not a children oriented cruise

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was extremely attentive they went out of their way to get you any thing you wanted or needed

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Areas were very clean, staff were always working and cleaning. The ship design had a very sterile feel to it very impersonal and removed.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin was small due to location in the very now. View was terrific but curvature made it smaller than a normal vista level suite. The cabin stew kept our room clean and tidy in spite of the fact they had 40 other rooms to care for!!

Ship tip

I would try the older ships, they may still have the glamour of ocean cruises.

Ports of call

Quebec City, Quebec

5 out of 5
Great city to visit, very French, very European; also like lots of places lots of traffic, and construction. Most people speak French but will try to help you even if you don’t.

Baie-Comeau, Quebec

2 out of 5
Tiny place, cute but not much here. We were here on Labor Day- 3 shops open- a chocolate shop, a gentlemen shop, and an antique shop.

Havre-Saint-Pierre, Quebec Did not visit port

Not one of our ports

Corner Brook, Newfoundland

1 out of 5
This was the reason I took the cruise. The day we docked it was pouring rain. We had a 2 hour bus ride to gros morne park where the trail was too muddy for us to walk to the top to see the earth mantle so we had the 2 hour bus ride back to the ship not allowing time for any other activity

St. Anthony, Newfoundland Did not visit port

Not a scheduled port

St. John's, Newfoundland

4 out of 5
Small not a lot to see. Area is pretty and info about people living there is interesting but the excursion is a bit over priced for what you get

Bar Harbor, Maine

4 out of 5
Area is pretty but pricey, was congested with tourists. No excursion- just walked around town.

Portland, Maine Did not visit port

Not on our itinerary

Boston, Massachusetts

3 out of 5
To expensive, to big, to congested

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Perfect! We pulled our bags out of our cabin and off the ship- out to the terminal got a cab to the hotel all within an hour!!
