Sail date: December 28, 2019

Ship: Nieuw Amsterdam

Traveled as: Large Group

Review summary

Did not offer cancellation when they couldn’t fulfill itinerary. Gave each passenger token on board credit for much bigger failure to deliver. Dishonest business practice by HAL.

Thanks for sharing your cruise with us.

I would say that it is a good thing that you were not on the Dec. 14th cancelled cruise. You need to just "suck it up and go with the flow". Yes I was disappointed to have to go back home home after never leaving Fl but HAL were wonderful and we are booked next month on the same ship. It isn't the first time I experienced a cancellation ( not the whole cruise) but that is how it goes.

You ruined your own cruise. I did the same trip 2 weeks ago and it was amazing.

Sorry, but you obviously didn't read your contract. The cruise line didn't do anything shady. Sounds like someone shady trying to get something for nothing. Too bad you ruined your own vacation by being a drag.

Interesting comments.

There was nothing HAL did that was dishonest. Go back and read your contract where it explains it all. You had to have read it, because before a passenger, which means you and me, is able to enter any ship, you have to electronically sign the contract, which means you have read it and you agree to the terms.

Missed ports are a part of cruising. We just returned from a cruise on Radiance of the Seas to New Zealand. We couldn't enter the harbour at one of the ports due to the weather but we still had a great trip.

What was dishonest? Unless they kept the port charges for any ports you did not visit, then they fulfilled their obligations according to the cruise contract everyone agrees to when booking. All cruise contracts state that no port or itinerary is guaranteed. Changes to itineraries happen for medical, political, mechanical, weather or other issues. Hopefully you had a good comprehensive travel policy that compensated you for any missed ports and the itinerary change.

If they don’t go to a port they have no obligation to refund you except for the port fee. Nieuw Amsterdam will be going into dry dock to fix the problem. It will again be a great ship when fixed. We loved it,
