Review summary

I really wish these three ports were not all about diamonds and more about Alaska and it's history. The cruise itself was perfect. The singers and dancers of the Neiuw Amsterdam were incredibly talented, comedian, meh, and the illusionist...WOW! Very doting staff, loved every minute.

Have visited Vancouver in the past. Lots of things to see and do.

Juneau, Alaska

What I did not expect, was every other shop being a diamond shop. Typical touristy town but the diamond shops were annoying. It was like Las Vegas, come in here .. come in here.. I'll give you a better deal. Totally not what I expected.

Skagway, Alaska

Skagway wasn't what I was expecting. Only 2 blocks to explore and it was the port we stayed at the longest. The tour we had however, was phenomenal. Our tour guide was Morgan and he was the highlight of the port in my opinion.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Beautiful town. Wish we had more time to explore it. Our tour guide was Karen and she was hilarious! Again, all the diamond shops became tiring. But we did find this cute little coffee shop called Sweet Mermaids. Could tell it was a local favorite, and I could tell why. AMAZING pastries and the chai latte mmmmmmmm.

There is a definite emphasis on jewellery and T-shirts in a lot of Alaska's port towns. Excursions provide relief from the pressure to shop and buy.

We went to Alaska in 2015 on Celebrity Solstice. It was fantastic. We did excursions at all the ports so didn't have to see any jewelry stores. We went on the Nieuw Amsterdam last March and loved it. The staff in buffet was just the best. Always smiling and friendly. Our cabin steward always called us by name everytime he saw us and always asked how our day was at port. The food in buffet and dining room, absolutely delicious.
