Review summary

We had previously cruised on the Navigator in 2016 and enjoyed it (13 Nights), despite the ship looking a little jaded in places, but the shows and the itinerary made up for the condition of the ship. However in 2017 the ship looks a little rougher, but the shows are identical and the staff are just not interested in being polite and happy. The itinerary had been cut by 3 port days, which meant that there was 5 days at sea and 5 days in port, on the 5 days at sea, 2 of them where crossing the Bay of Biscay, so that wasn’t great, but we knew it would be so, however we were not prepared for such a worn out mattress on our bed, which made the crossing harder, due to the mattress being uncomfortable to start with. We asked for it to be changed, only to find it had been "padded" with towels, which made the hot nights unbearable. Overall this cruise had less days, a shorter itinerary, for more money! The bar service was very slow in some areas. Could have been much better. The Navigator needs a refresh and so does the crew!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Southampton is an excellent port to embark from. Very friendly staff.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The main eating facilities are the WindJammer and the Sapphire dining rooms, both were often crowded with slow service. Long waiting times.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Quizes etc where ok, definately more Hoseasons than cruise line though.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The onboard entertainment was the same as last year, which is'nt to say it was bad, just not "fresh", I expected some new content, as my cruise was 3 days shorter than the same one last year for more money!

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
Our son really liked the kids club, however I'm not sure they deal with agressive children that well. Our son was often telling us about aggressive children that where allowed to stay.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
It was'nt great, the staff are just not interested in being polite and happy.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was clean, but tired, the Navigator really needs a refit, we would'nt cruise on her again, unless the ship is brought up to date. Its looking very jaded and worn in places. The basic layout is good, just needs a good refresh. The ship was clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

Ship tip

Don't sail on her, until she has a refit or unless you get a bargain!

I was on in March 2017. I loved the Nav. Crew couldn't be nicer and waitstaff in the main-gorgeous dining room- were awesome. But everyone doesn't always see things the same way. My cabin and bed- very comfy. The itinerary- I would've hated 5 days at sea. Not acceptable at all.

We were on her in April 2017 and had no complaints, the service was top notch everywhere on the ship.

I enjoyed Navigator last December, but agree that the staff was nowhere near what I am used to with Royal or other lines I've cruised with. We never saw our cabin attendant and the service in the Windjammer for breakfast was poor. The ship Itself seemed alright to me, I didn't notice any wear or tear, but then again it was my first voyager class, so I had nothing to compare it too.
