Review summary

Great first cruise experience marred by hit and miss food quality.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Embarkation was reasonably orderly and worked well.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
MSC does pizza and pastries really well - I thought they were excellent. The sit down dinners were hit and miss food quality. We were served tough veal and chicken several times. I once ordered a belgian waffle for breakfast and was served two ego toaster waffles.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The pools were great!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The ship's stage shows were excellent! Everyone seemed to really enjoy the magician. The Rock Royalty stage show was also excellent. I tried to see as many as I could.

Children's Programs

I didn't bring children on board.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Staff were very polite and friendly, and always greeted me. Understanding English was sometimes a challenge for them.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was very well maintained. It was upscale and clean feeling.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was not large but upscale feeling and was nicely maintained. The shower was really tight but worked well overall. One downside of deck 15 was that my cabin was sitting directly below the buffet and I ended up hearing a lot of chair shuffling and carts rolling from directly above. It was particularly noticeable while on the veranda.

Ship tip

Be prepared for some hit and miss food quality. Definitely try the pizza!

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5
The Port Canaveral port facility was a bit chaotic feeling. It didn't seem as well organized as an airport would be. There were huge traffic jams trying to get into the port facility.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas

5 out of 5
The private island was excellent. The beach was a lot of fun and well maintained. The lunch buffet was so-so.

Nassau, Bahamas Did not visit port

I didn't hear good comments about this port from other cruisers, so I didn't bother getting off the ship that day.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
The express disembarkation proved to be chaotic. Several us of ended up trapped in an elevator that we couldn't get off of because the exit deck lobby was too crammed full of people (deck 6). Several folks started to feel faint from the heat. We were trapped in that elevator for about 25 minutes.
