Review summary

We've cruised with MSC several times and overall we were very happy with this cruise and enjoyed it much more than many, but not all, of the other cruises we've been on. The entertainment was excellent but different than what you might see on other cruise lines. It definitely has more of a European influence and includes not just singers and dancers but also cirque type performers.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We pretty much walked right on even though we were an hour earlier than our assigned embarkation time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was all very good, fresh and well prepared. Soft serve ice cream is served by the staff and there are lines at times, but it was worth the wait. Definitely creamier than anything we've had on other lines and the portions were more than adequate. The marketplace buffet is a huge area with enough stations that there were very rarely lines or crowds to slow you down and the variety was more than ample. Dining room service was also very good, although we didn't eat in the dining room as often as in the past. We chose early dining which wound up being a little to early for us at 5:00 PM.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We mainly spent time with each other and some friends we were cruising with. We did enjoy the shows in the evening and listening to live music in some of the other smaller venues. They also had a nice veterans salute one afternoon and the welcome back party was also nice. The shows alone were excellent but you have to be sure to make reservations as they were almost always full.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The entertainment was all excellent. Singers and dancers all did a real good job and one of the shows was their first performance and they all did a great job. Some of the other musicians and singers in other venues were also top notch.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff we interacted with were all very nice, friendly and helpful. That said, we didn't have a lot of need to call on the service staff, which is a good thing.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
We thought the ship was well thought out and clean throughout. One suggestion I would have would be to set up designated meeting places when meeting in the Marketplace Buffet. It is a huge area and it is easy to get separated so having a specific meeting area would be recommended.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We were upgraded to a balcony cabin which we rarely used. My only complaint would be that it was a little on the narrow side with not a lot of room between the bed and walls, closet doors and couch. Bathroom shower was also a little on the small side. That said, we were comfortable and the cabin was more than adequate for our needs.

Ship tip

Have some designated meeting areas as the ship is huge and it is easy to get separated.
