Review summary

Totally enjoyed our cruise! We needed a change in scenery and everything was great!

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Embarkation was a bit more confused and less orderly than it could have been. Though this is more a Port Miami issue, we were not as happy as we could have been. Everyone is given a “boarding group” number and an “assigned” place to wait. Well, to say the waiting area was mass confusion would be an understatement. As is normal, a lot of folks seem to think they have super powers or some level of status or something that allows them to head straight to the front of any line! Add to this l, once boarding started there was a mad rush to get to the boarding door, no one called out boarding groups until a hoard of passengers had pushed through those of us who were less privileged and clogged up the passageway to the ship. It was after the clog had formed before anyone actually showed up to announce which group was boarding! Wow! Novel idea! Actually announce it rather than let everyone decide their own status. 😉

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We found the food in most venues to be good. We only ate in the main dinning room twice but enjoyed what we selected on both occasions. The Marketplace buffet had more than enough selections of good food and we chose to eat there most days. Hint: The white cheese pizza is excellent!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We are generally not pool, fitness center, or rock climbing folks. As seniors, we like relaxing and we did a lot of that! But, the hot tubs were well utilized as were the outdoor areas where beverages were close by seemed to be favored by a lot of passengers. There were very few times we passed the fitness center when it wasn’t in use by several energetic folks.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The one show we attended was great! High energy and really talented performers.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone we came in contact with were great! The crew all seemed happy to help whenever we asked. Our room steward(ess) kept thing nice and tidy and did it with a smile. Bar staff were very busy but still took time to converse.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Seascape’s design was just a bit different than we expected. It utilizes earthtones which are actually very well incorporated into the overall design. It is “peaceful”. Being a brand new ship, cleanliness was not an issue. 🙂 One tip, especially for those who have any issues with walking. We were forward of midships on deck 10. Our morning walk to get to the buffet was fairly long since the buffet, outdoor bars, pool, and other spaces seemed to be aft. Seascape is not a short ship! Be prepared to walk. You will definitely be ready for that morning coffee or Bloody Mary by the time you get to the aft elevator! If we sail again on Seascape, we will definitely book a cabin more aft!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was a Fantastica balcony and was fine. We did spend a lot of time on the balcony since the weather was really nice for January! Size was adequate, nothing to get excited about but for the time actually spent in the cabin it was good. One complaint: noise transmission from our next door neighbors was a bit of a problem. Don’t know if why, but their door seemed to slam every time they entered or exited. 😳 It would even rattle the wall! Ship design? Bad neighbors? Probably the latter but the noise did seem at a higher level than any previous cruise. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ship tip

Overlook the hassle at Port Miami and enjoy this new and beautiful ship!

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
One of our favorite ports! Been there several times and always enjoy just walking around and acting like a resident.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

5 out of 5
First time in DR and Puerta Plata was great! Did not leave the port area but did not need to. Everything was right there for those of us who are not big excursioneers.

Miami, Florida

3 out of 5
3 stars only because of the construction going on at the port. It will hopefully get much better once construction is completed.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas

5 out of 5

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We carried our luggage off and the process was super easy! We had a fairly early flight and were concerned about getting to the airport on time. But, we cleared our cabin about 8:00 and were off the ship by 8:30-8:45! Easy peasy!
