Review summary

Ship's crew is still on a "learning curve". If cruising with MSC, be prepared to be "nickled-and-dimed" for various on-board services.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Efficient.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
VERRRRY SLOOOOOW service in the dining room. Food was so-so both in dining room and buffet areas.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Typical on-board features--pools, jacuzzis, etc. Most specialty-type attractions were not used by mostly-senior passengers on this cruise.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Except for two unique performers, stage shows were not memorable nor unique.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Friendly, accomodating staff. Conflicting information sometimes given in response to questions.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
BIG ship! Prepare to do a lot of walking to reach different areas on-board.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Standard-type cruise cabin. Nothing unique.

Ship tip

Prepare to be "nickled and dimed" for any service and for such things as laundry, ice cream, gourmet coffee, etc.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

3 out of 5

Barcelona, Spain

4 out of 5

Valencia, Spain

5 out of 5
Surprisingly beautiful and interesting city!

Cadiz (Seville), Spain

5 out of 5
Charming "small city", easy to walk in and close to port where ship was docked.

Funchal, Madeira

5 out of 5

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

3 out of 5
Far from main city of Hamilton. Woeful lack of access to/from Hamilton when passengers disembarked from ship upon arrival!

New York, New York

5 out of 5

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Disorganized! For early departing passengers who had to carry their own bags, had to arrive at an early assembly point and then had to wait OVER 2 HOURS before being allowed off the ship--enough annoyance to decide never to take an MSC cruise ever again!

I agree with the others that all cruise lines I've been on (Carnival, Norwegian, Disney, royal Caribbean) they all nickel and dime you. Honestly I feel like MSC gives you the most bang for your buck when it comes to prices for everything. Even their drink packages are better priced than the other cruise lines

MSC as every other line charges for extras like specialty coffee, bottled water, laundry, etc. You don't have to pay if you feel it's too much

Thanks for the review

Don’t all cruise lines charge extra for those items?

I haven't felt nickeled and dimed on MSC more so than any other line. Of course I don't want much, so, I'm less affected by it.

I hated all the nickel and diming when I was on MSC. It was constant.

Interesting

I had a great experience with MSC on two cruises this year and have four more to booked in the next year. Europeans generally take a slower pace for dinner, which is sometimes frustrating to Americans. Most cruise lines charge extra for laundry and specialty coffees. Ice cream was free on the Divina, but there was a charge for gelato.
