Review summary

Overall we had a good cruise. This was our first cruise, so we don't have anything to compare it to. The travellers were me, my husband & three kids (6, 2 & 10 months).

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food was good. The buffet layout was not good. There were basically 4 buffet lines. The 2 at the back of the ship were not crowded, but these did not have the pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs or fries. The kids always wanted these items, so my husband would go to one side for the grill items & I would go to the other for the pizza. There was alway a long wait in these lines. They have a different pizza in the evening which was excellent! The gelato was fantastic, but it did cost extra. The evening meals in the dining room were great. Our waiter & his assistant were great with the kids.

Entertainment

Outstanding shows in the evening. Not a lot of daytime activities for the family.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
My son (6) was excited to go to the kids program, until we went to sign him up. They were making balloon animals. When my two year old picked one up, they told him not to touch it. Not sure what they were doing with them. They were not friendly with the kids at that point & my son decided he wouldn't go to the programs. When we saw the kids in the program around the ship, they didn't seem to be having a good time. One group of probably 7-8 year olds were going around the ship (by themselves) asking passengers for items on their scavenger hunt. I felt they were a little young to be asking for items from strangers by themselves. The kids club rooms looked nice, but they were always locked. Would have been nice to use them, as it was very windy a couple days. The kids pool was never filled.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Very friendly, helpful staff.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Very clean, attractive ship. The smokers seemed to take over one side of the ship on the pool deck, and you had to walk through the smoking bar to get to the theater - not good with children. The hallway by our room also smelled of smoke.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Nice sized room (oceanview, obstructed). Very clean. Pillows were lumpy & the sheets sratchy. Nice sized porthole. Plenty of storage. Fruit bowl refilled daily.

Ports of call

Samana, Dominican Republic

3 out of 5
Nice beach right there. Not worth snorkeling there. Some local vendors & food. Nothing else on the island, but a resort. Tender was in the life boat. Had to wait in a long line to tender back - very hot & little shade.
Don't Miss: Beach

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Very crowded.

St. John's, Antigua

1 out of 5
This port seemed dirty & run down. No beach at the port. We didn't feel that there was enough time to take a taxi somewhere. We were leaving port a hour earlier than in the itinerary.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Good shopping. Took the water taxi to Phillipsburg. Beach right there. Wish we would have taken the taxi tour around the island.

Pros: Cleaniless

Cons: Too much smoking allowed in public areas
