Review summary

This is gonna be difficult, I am a periodic cruiser, maybe 10-12 cruises over 30 years+. Everything from 4-5 days to 14 days all over the Atlantic. Really really was looking forward to the Yacht Club experience this time around, hoping to recapture the magic of cruising in the 80’s. Well all I can say is that the YC is a nice way to hide from the chaos of a somewhat frustrating run cruise line. We were expecting a wonderful leisurely 6 day cruise to Bermuda to complete a long awaited genealogy trip documenting a family member planted there. Instead we spent 6 days going in circles through crappy weather stopping at some southerly ports that have absolutely no interest to us especially in rainy weather. We only just had boarded when everything went completely sideways, no Bermuda no advance notice, lousy weather which didn’t help either of us from a comfort standpoint, just 6 miserable days with sea sickness, absolutely no appetite, couldn’t tell you much about the food cause we both were too uncomfortable from the rough seas to eat or really go anywhere or do anything! So like I said I haven’t even able to process the last week very well, I feel compelled to let the ownership know something but I can’t even organize my thoughts regarding what the last week has been like. We are just happy to be home right now and will update regarding my attempt to see the managements position.

Embarkation

The cruise line knows how to get YC folks off the docks

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It’s a no brainer staying in the yacht club if you like to be left alone and generally like a little space.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Appropriate for a large inside, extremely well kept and neat. The Yacht Club concept apparently isn’t applied evenly throughout the yacht club, not saying the frontline workers aren’t trying, it just seems the enthusiasm varies greatly regarding the various mid level positions.

Ship tip

Check your itinerary BEFORE you board, you may be able to save yourself from a huge disappointment.

Ports of call

Brooklyn, New York

Seriously, Brooklynn isn’t know for its seaport!

Disembarkation

Again, the YC knows how to get you in and out quickly if not a bit hastily, problem is you still have to deal with the folks that just don’t understand decent public behavior.

You can't blame MSC for the crappy weather. I am sure they did everything they could to keep you from the worse weather. All cruise lines would do the same.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Cruise lines rarely compensate for the weather.

It stinks to miss a port you were really looking forward to but if missing a port will ruin your vacation then never take a cruise. Ports are missed all the time. Better to fly to that location.

I sailed this ship earlier this year and it was the worst experience ever.

Sorry you were disappointed.

Like "javawoody" said it's the time of the year, so expect anything. I was on the same route in September and two hurricanes back to back but the ship dodged the one north of us and south of the ship.

I was on the same cruise and was really looking forward to it because I loved my last MSC cruise and I was a little disappointed. Not only because of being rerouted (I get it with bad weather, but I chose Bermuda specifically because they don’t harass you in the port like they do in Nassau and I didn’t even want to do anything there). I paid for an ocean view over an inside because I wanted more room and a couch, which was advertised and pictured, and my room was so tiny I had to walk sideways to get around the bed. And once they separated the bed into two, it was narrower than the pillows and every time the ship swayed I almost fell out. LOL. The food was good in the dining room, but options were limited. The buffet was the same every day. I’ve been on over 20 cruises and have had more complimentary options on every other sailing. The ship itself was beautiful and I somehow expected classier clientele, not women throwing wine in each other’s faces during a fight at the buffet. 🤦‍♀️ Didn’t care for the port of Brooklyn either, the whole place was a zoo. But they did serve my favorite wine and the theater shows were the best I’ve seen at sea.

Wow, sorry to hear about your cruise let down. I took that same cruise on 9/18 & it was awesome. But, barely missed 1 hurricane going & almost got caught on another coming back, very rough seas & torrential rains. Very charged weather if crushing the Atlantic from June to November. Not sure what other ports were offered instead of Bermuda, they usually send some kind of notice, make an announcement on the loudspeaker. Wishing you a better experience on your next cruise.

Poor choice of time of year to cruise

Thanks for sharing. Lesson learned: Weather in that area at this time of year is extremely unpredictable which will lead to port changes.

Itinerary can and does change even when you are on board. Sorry you were disappointed with your cruise.
