The Cruise was ok MSC are quite a good cruise company and some really good crew, some quite ignorant. Some good musical entertainment throughout the ship. Food was a bit hit and miss when it was good it was good, we missed out saint John and Halifax due to a storm on the east coast, we went to Corner Brook instead.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Very Quick to board but terminal was in Brooklyn no subway nearby with heavy cases. Taxi cost $30 from Times Square.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
We only used buffet, had to return burgers twice as raw on the inside, some other meats really nice. Good selection of salads.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
F1 Simulator very good, two table tennis tables, allowed 30 minutes but you have a few minutes each way to get to them, some players refused to leave the table, playing with their own bats. Gym very good.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Stage productions were quite good, in my opinion the cast did not do Time to say goodbye any justice at all. Great magicians. The only downside for us was on the last evening we sat in a row of seats near the back as usual, a crew member shouted over that the seats were for special need passengers only and to give up our seats, this was very embarrassing for us as our son is a blue badge holder due to his disability. We pointed this out no apology he just walked away. The seats with wheelchair signs was used by passengers and not challenged.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
There was several incidents regarding crew on disembarkation at ports, they allowed passengers from different areas all to just join each line causing aome confrontations, crew not letting you board on a gangway with only few passengers but directed us to a queue with 20 people trying to board and passengers disembarking on same gang way, no common sense, lack of crew to help disembark after immigration check, several passengers even went back round the queue and joined the immigration queue again, no one helping to guide you to the exit.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Ship was kept spotless, lovely panorama lift with windows looking out to sea. Lots of information screens to use throughout.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Cabin was nice and clean, we paid extra for the larger balcony. During the cruise there was a foul smell coming out of the shower drain away, reported this over 5 times plumber visited and poured a bleach type substance down the drain, cabin steward had to pour bleach every day. Complained and was offered a cabin with a small balcony costs less than we paid, was given a bottle of Martini and chocolate as an apology. We was told to make a complaint when we got back home. This is ongoing at the moment.
Ship tip
I would recommend you just sit and wait when you get into port, let the queues die down first.
We stayed at the Edison Hotel Times Square, there deliveries to a theatre type building opposite at 3am with beer kegs being dropped on to the floor, very loud music also up to 4am in the street below. Times Square was full of the smell of weed and very over crowded.
Lovely port, buildings. Don't use the excursion to the cliff top walk and mansions, think it was $50 there is a free trolley bus that takes you to the same places.
Sydney is undergoing quite a lot of roadworks, very small area in the city like a high street, nice harbour walk and booths in the arrival area, selling tourist goods, jewellery etc.
Quite a large city, short walk in from the dock. Cancelled the $152 excursion to freeport shops, we got the breeze bus for$24 for the 3 of us, only a few shops of interest.
We had to leave cabin at 07.30am went for breakfast was allowed off just before 09.30am, when we collected our luggage from the baggage hall, we had tickets to JFK transfer, there was no one outside to let you know where the bus stop was, you have to walk around a very very busy car park area aimlessly. The coaches are opposite the baggage hall area.
