Review summary

Overall we had fun and enjoyed the ship. We most likely won’t book MSC again however due to the bad quality of food.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
It took us one hour from start to finish to board the ship. They had you walk through a temperature monitor to check your body temperature and also had you fill out a paper to see if you’ve been ill or been to Asia recently due to the Corona virus.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
This was our 17th cruise, first on MSC. The food on Meraviglia was the worst we’ve had of all of our cruises. The food in the dining room was sometimes inedible. The steaks and short ribs were full of fat and veins. The fish was overcooked and dry. The portion sizes are small. If you’re looking for fillet, lobster, prime rib...you won’t find it on this ship unless you want to pay an up charge. One night I ordered the pasta with shrimp and sausage...it had no shrimp in it and two tiny pieces of sausage. Most all the desserts lacked sugar which may be a European thing but we were very disappointed. The Marketplace buffet had good hamburgers and pizza but not much else was good. If you’re looking for “wow factors” with the food, it won’t be on this ship.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
It had your basic activities that most ships have....trivia, sports tournaments, bingo, etc. We enjoyed the Master Chef show.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The shows were good with very talented musicians, singers and dancers.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Cabin steward was great. Guest services staff were great. Our waiter in the dining room served us food but that was about it. He never asked how our food was, what he recommended, if we needed anything else, he made us feel like we were troubling him to serve us. Not personable at all. Just not the dining experience that we are used to. We had breakfast in the dining room one day and waited a very long time for our food. It was pretty much cold by the time we got it and had to continually hunt down the waiter to ask for things that he forgot to bring (syrup, orange juice, cream, butter, etc.)

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Beautiful ship, very clean. The cabins were tricky to figure out how to get to. We were on deck 11 AFT and it took us a few days to figure out how to get back there. The corridor splits off several times.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin was clean. We only had 2 drawers and closet was a little smaller than were used to. Shower was a good size. Always had tissues, towels and ice.

Ship tip

From 4-5pm every day they have specialty cookies/snacks at the Marketplace on Deck 15.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

2 out of 5
We drove in from the Orlando area and ran into a lot of traffic in Miami. Also it was very confusing finding the Terminal. There are no signs telling you what ship is at each terminal. The Meraviglia was at Terminal F and we parked across the street at Parking Garage G. It was $22 a day.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

The locals were very pushy trying to get you to book a tour. We walked around the Port a little then took a tour of the Island with a local guy. It was $15pp.

Belize City, Belize

4 out of 5
Had to take a 20 minute tender to the island. We shopped at the Port. Great place for souvenirs.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Very nice port with plenty to do and see. They have a dolphin show and a parrot tour. We also watched the wrestling match.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very easy. Took us about 20 minutes.
