Review summary

MSC caters mostly to Europeans and is claiming to do better since coming into the American market. But we haven’t seen that, so far on 2 cruises with them it has been much of the same. Customer service is lacking, misinformation is prevalent, quality & variety of food and wait staff needs to get better. I am sorry but the way you feed and interact with Americans is not the same as with Europeans ( who tend to be standoffish & rude) just my opinion.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Surprisingly embarkation was fast, but still unorganized. As soon as the staff said we could board it was like a stampede. Pushing, shoving... like people we’re going to miss the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Not enough variety, much of the same all week long, very small portions. Food didn’t have much taste to it. On the desert front.... they get an “F” they need to do better.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Nothing to brag about, but they were ok.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Shows were good

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Service in the Marketplace ( buffet) needs to get better, staff not very friendly. Not very helpful we found ourselves asking for everything. Waiters at times couldn’t be found but there was always restaurant staff and bar staff trying to sell you dining & drink packages.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship is beautiful. All areas were well maintained and kept clean at all times

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Small but comfortable, having a balcony was nice. We did have to speak to the cabin steward regarding cleaning the room everyday. We had to tell him to always knock on the door to see if we were in or out because they claim to have a policy that if they see a red light above your door they will not disturb you. The red light comes on when you enter the room and put your seapass card in a slot in the room ( when the card is not inserted the power to the room shuts off).

Ship tip

No matter the opinions of anyone including myself, book your cruise and experience it for yourself.

Ports of call

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas

1 out of 5
It seems from what I’ve heard from past passengers and from my own experience is that MSC has been canceling this port alot, supposedly due to weather, seems like a few rain drops amount to a monsoon. Many folks we spoke to said the same. We know the preserve in still somewhat under Construction and that everything there may not be ready but there have been just too many cancellations. When taking on a project like this everything needs to be thought off (weather, location, logistics...etc) so if they knew primarily that weather would be a big issue then why go through with the project. Very disappointing.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Great port as long as they don’t have 8 ships on the day like we did. This was where we were taken since Ocean Cay was cancelled due to “weather “ It was so packed you could barely walk. Other than that we have been here before and it is a very nice port. Everything is walking distance, right off the docks they have Costa Maya village, many shops, restrooms, a couple of restaurants/bars. There is a hugge pool with a swim up bar, DJ. Free loungers with a 1 drink minimum.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

5 out of 5
Ochi as the locals call it is one of our favorites, nice people, great prices on goods and souvenirs, nice restaurants, the beach at Margaritaville right off the ship use to be free, but they’ve gone to all inclusive. Now it’s about $25 per person . You get one umbrella & 1 lounger. Dunn’s River falls is just a 5!min cab ride from the port.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Beautiful port, be prepared to pay top prices for everything, other than that it’s great here.

Cozumel, Mexico

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Our experience on this trip was excellent as far as disembarkation is concerned. Out of our cabin and in our cabin in about 20 mins

As an American (from the south with manners) I've never had but excellent service on any of my 4 msc cruises. In my experience, the staff treat you exactly as you treat them. Perhaps respect & kindness next time will leave you begging respected right back.
