This was our second cruise with MSC, and our second re positioning. Overall, was a good balance of relaxing sea days and great Mediterranean ports. Fantasia was a great ship and I would sail on her again in a heartbeat.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We flew via Gatwick (staying over the night before) and MSC representatives were at the check in desks going through the paperwork - better here than at the other side when you just want to board the ship! We were able to board almost immediately in Barbados, and no wait at all to finish the check in and get our photos taken at guest services.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We had second sitting in the dining room, which was just too late, so we always ate in the buffet. Selections were generally good, although as a non meat eater main course options can be limited. Never went hungry though! Plenty of salads and fruit available, and the bread was wonderful. Lots of staff constantly clearing plates etc, so never had any problems finding a seat, even at busier times. Good choice of bars, all with a different theme. Drink prices very reasonable (based on Irish prices).
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Used the gym twice! But was well equipped, and my other half used it most days. We pre purchased thermal area passes, and used this most sea days, and I enjoyed using the relaxation room. Plenty of pools and jacuzzis available, but the crossing was very windy and the pools were closed for some of the time.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Shows and musicians were so-so, but I don't cruise for these so not an issue.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Overall the service was very good, and those we encountered were mainly friendly and obliging, particularly Agus, who was our ninja cabin steward. Do find the constant entreaties to take photographs a bit of a pain, but this happens on all lines.
Ship Quality

Lovely ship, clean and to my eye well maintained.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We had paid for the basic 'Bella' experience, but we got a cabin on deck 13 with an extra large balcony. There was a large overhang on the balcony, which did limit the sun, when it came out. The cabin itself was a good size. Bathroom was small, although well designed and with sufficient storage space.
We had a shortish day here, so walked into town for a look around. There is a cabin with maps just as you leave the port. Santa Cruz is compact and easily walkable.
Malaga is a great place for a visit, walkable from the ship. We had a good walk around, visiting previous haunts, including El Pimpi bar for cafe con leche and the market for olives. Pleasant stroll back through the market for €2 glasses of wine!
Arrived at 1pm. As we haven't visited here before, shared a taxi into the centre with another couple, and then went exploring. Fabulous city, well worth a visit. Got the local bus back to the port (number 4) and then walked the rest of way, but don't do this if you are under pressure of time...
Ramblas are easily accessible from the ship. Did some walking around, and found a nice bar for a drink. Have visited any times, so mainly took it easy today.
