Review summary

I will be traveling Royal again someday, perhaps the Bahamas. This experience was overall great. I love the feeling that they were inclusive with their guests. The staff is the best thing they have going. I always to hope to experience customer service on this level else where but it feels good to know there are still companies that value how they treat their customers no matter who they are. I hope this level of care for guests continues. A couple of bad apples doesn't ruin the experience.

Embarkation

Arriving and boarding the ship was easy and seamless. We arrived early, went through security, and walked right on within a matter of 10 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
When we arrived, the main dining room on the 11th level was available with a buffet. The food was tasty but seemed to be the same dishes every day and a lot of Indian style dishes. I wish they switched it up a bit. Also, there were other dining areas available but you'd have to purchase a Key to access those. We quickly discovered we preferred the other dining room we were assigned to on level 3 and placed our orders. The wait staff was above and beyond amazing. They treated us with the upmost respect. Most dishes were satisfactory but better than the buffet options because of the variety. I loved that every night there was something different.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I appreciated that there was always something to do. The pools were crowded, as to be expected. Plenty of seating was available. No long lines for anything but we only experienced the slides, rock climbing, or basketball court.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We attended several shows. All entertaining and respectful. I love the guest engagement game shows and Karaoke. Great entertainment for the comedy show, ice skating and a band in the super nice theatres.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Let me first say our room steward was amazing! He checked on us every morning. Every single one of those gentlemen servicing our area was very polite, I felt safe, attended to, and my belongings cared for. The room was kept up with a sweet towel art to go with it. We tipped happily and felt we wish we could give even more to the room steward and waiters. There were some unfortunate incidents where we were made to feel insignificant. We were purchasing internet and was rudely interrupted by another guest, and the staff laughed (who was a couple) at us for voicing our concern. We were bypassed by several folks offering to dine at the specialty restaurants. I overlooked these moments happening to us twice, but the third time I believe there was some prejudices or discrimination happening.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I loved the layout of this ship. Although it was a smaller ship it had so much to offer us, so clean, so well kept, and beautifully allowed a view of some art along with the restaurant and shopping area. Easy to learn the layout.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This was my moms first cruise and she loved the room space, the balcony was a perfect touch, the room was kept clean (with no strong cleaning supply smells), hot shower, comfy pillows and bed. It was a 10 for sure.

Ship tip

It's likely a great experience for everyone and anyone. You can make it your own, depending on what you like to do. There are options for everyone of all backgrounds and preferences. From vegetarian meals, to busy guests or a laid back. We were both busy and relaxed. This was an opportunity to sail the Mariner of the Seas that I will never regret.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

5 out of 5
We just onboarded here but smooth easy. Not as chaotic as most ports.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
This was a small area but a very nice experience. I do wish that there was more information about what to accept or not accept once you are approached by people off the boat to purchase passes, excursions, taking taxis, beach areas to go to.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
This was my second time in Cozumel. Not sure what port I visited last time. This one seemed smaller. Very crowded but we did an excursion in Cozumel with the dolphin encounter Chankanaab. The excursion was amazing, company was great, very organized, great instructions, and informative about the area and wildlife.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
A smooth approach to people leaving. There was a little confusion about where to go to exit but still easy because the staff was waiting in areas.
