Review summary

This was our first cruise on Royal and we got an excellent deal on a JR suite with an upgrade bid. Everything went smoothly except for embarkation and pre cruise covid testing which was very confusing and chaotic. Ship was very nice overall but showing age in certain areas. Food was good, service was great! We loved Coco Cay! Activities were fun and there was something for everyone. We particularly enjoyed the ice show. Overall we prefer NCL but would definitely go on Royal again for the right price, especially if it goes to Coco Cay.

Embarkation

Security would not accept our covid tests. The reason they gave is that our names were hand written on the form. The form met all the criteria list on their website but they wouldn't accept it. Had to pay an extra $200+ to get tested at the pier.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was very good but not fantastic. MDR had excellent prime rib 2 nights out of 4. Other dishes were good but not great, seemed a little dry and bland but overall we liked it. MDR was only open for lunch one day . We did the Hibachi on the second night, again very good although I felt the chef used too much garlic and oil.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Cruise director staff was a lot of fun. We won 2nd place in the selfie scavenger hunt and had a lot of fun at trivia. Plenty of room and loungers around the pools. Waterslides were fun and hardly ever a line, although there were only 1100 ppl on board for our cruise.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Top notch service all around. The dining staff learn your first name and are very attentive. Our room steward seemed over worked but did a very good job.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship is showing age despite a recent refurbishment. Was very very clean but seemed dingy in spots.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Roomy and comfortable. Huge walk in closet and large balcony. Plenty of shelves and comfortable sofa and chair. Balcony door and cabinet hinges were worn and need to be replaced but overall very good.

Ship tip

Be sure to check RCL'S website for latest health and safety info before cruising.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
Easiest embarkation and disembarkation ever. Convenient covered parking. Better than Miami or Tampa IMO.

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Lots of construction at the pier and two other ships in port. Could see the straw market from our balcony and it appeared to be closed so we didn't get off the ship. Excursions were offered.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

5 out of 5
Coco Cay is a destination by itself. Well worth the price of the cruise. Lunch at Coco Beach Club was the best meal of our cruise.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very easy self assist called by group. Facial recognition made getting through customs a snap.

Oh never mind. You said the tests. I mistook it for the vaccine card

Well that’s a bummer. Both of ours are handwritten. Hopefully their will not be an issue

Was the suite upgrade a reasonable price?
