Review summary

The ship was nice, except my room experience. One week after the cruise, we are still sick because of the filthy room. I’ve been on 17 cruises and I have never experienced anything like that. Such a shame.

Wish I could rate a zero!!! The first night, I kept waking up with a cough, I was wheezing and I had a stuffy nose. The second person in my party had a scratchy throat and the third person had hoarseness/sore throat. Whenever we would leave the room, the symptoms would go away. Whenever we would enter the room for any reason (to change, nap, etc), I would immediately, start coughing and feel sick; the room would feel stuffy. On day four (at sea), I went back to the room for a nap; when I looked at the sheets, they were dusty! They were as if they had not been changed in weeks! (I took pictures of the sheets with the dust on them.) As I said the room was very stuffy and it felt uncomfortable. This went on for all four nights with my symptoms getting worse (upper respiratory congestion, wheezing, coughing); this goes for everyone in my party. I was told that this was a sold out cruise so I didn’t change rooms. I didn’t notice the dusty sheets until the last day. The bathroom smelled like a sewer. We had to keep the door closed so our room did not have a sewage smell. Totally disgusting! I was mortified every time I had to use the restroom because of the smell. I was gagging as I was brushing my teeth. I was raving about how great RC is to someone who sailed with me (they have never been on a cruise) as I’ve cruised with RC before, and they are NOT impressed. I have never experienced this before. Dirty, dusty sheets...a smelly bathroom? I am very disappointed with the room situation. I was still wheezing and coughing for the remainder of the day (last day of cruise 01/03) from inhaling the dust from the dirty sheets, and my daughter still had a scratchy throat with a cough, but we are better now that we are out of that environment. When I spoke to customer service when I got back, they refused to help me. They said I should have said something to guest services while on the ship. But I was told it was a sold out cruise so what was I to do?? I asked to speak with someone in the loyalty department. When I was transferred, they were tag teaming me and both being nasty to me, refusing to help me. The lady was saying “I don’t see anything in the pictures.” She must be blind. They must be trained to not help customers. I am truly disappointed in RC.

Ship tip

Go to guest services if you have a problem or else you will not get any help after the fact.

Did the doctor opined you were sick because of Filthy room or it's your opinion you were sick of Filthy room,? Better luck next cruise.

I have never had a problem with Royal until now. I only came on here to share my experience my experience and not to be judge!

They were dusty! When you are coming/going and not paying attention due to activities during the day and night and when we finally settle down during a day at sea with the curtains open, that’s when we noticed the filth!! Again, that room must have remained dormant for a while. As far as the bathroom, I don’t know if it was the toilet brush or the toilet, it was just funky. Who wants to wait around for maintenance to tell you there’s nothing they can do???

Sorry I call B.S. if I had a smelly bathroom and dirty/dusty sheets I would have called my room attendant to fix the problem. But seems to me if the sheets were dusty you would kick up dust when you got under them and noticed it immediately. Sounds like someone wanted to try to get something for free by making up a fake problem...

Dusty sheets..just when you thought you heard it all.

The sheets can't have been that dusty if you didn't notice until the last day?!

Even though the cruise was sold out they could have changed the sheets and cleaned the bathroom well. I’m sure people complain all the time do they probably have to be skeptical.

Never had an issue on Royal Caribbean. They changed the sheets daily on our November cruise on Adventure of the Seas. Maybe sailing during the busiest week of the year caused them not to be able to keep up.
