All in all, we really enjoyed our cruise on the Mariner. Coco Cay is a must - experience destination, great for all ages. Our only complaint for the cruise is that there seemed to be extra emphasis on selling specialty items onboard then on past cruises, but it was not overbearing. The staff was still friendly and extremely helpful, ship offered plenty to enjoy, and our vacation was another great experience with Royal Caribbean.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Arrived at cruise port at 10:45, was on the ship by 11. Process was a breeze!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
4.5 stars if possible. Food and drink was very good at main dining. Some could have been a little warmer, and a little more variety....but that’s being picky. Windjammer was good, though standard fair. Coco Cay food was great
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Plenty to do for all ages! Great balance of relax and enjoy.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Shows were great. Performers were too notch and entertaining. Not a huge fan of comedian, but that’s personal preference so not reflected in review.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Service was great as usual and staff did not disappoint! Only complaint would be amount of times we were asked to sign up for specialty dining, seemed like every time we entered the windjammer. In our opinion, they were more focused on selling these options then previous cruises....Disappointed in that.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Public areas in ship were great. Well kept and clean. Layout was easy to navigate with plenty to offer any cruiser!
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Our stateroom was an interior room so nothing fancy. The shower head was a little goofy and the interior is a little tired and worn, though not terrible. Definitely good, but not 5 stars.
Ship tip
My time dining was helpful, if you want to same table and wait staff, would suggest making reservations once you leave the dining hall each night. Try the water slides and flowrider early on embarkation day or at ports of call to avoid long lines!
We have been to Coco Cay in years passed before the revamp. We LOVE what they did to the island. We are budget cruisers and didn’t pay extra for the water park, but really feel like we didn’t miss a thing. There is a kids water park that does not require purchase, that our kids would have loved if we would have brought them. The island is beautiful, and with only our ship docking didn’t feel crowded at all! Food was great, definitely try the snack shack! Really was a perfect beach day.
We walked to Junkanoo beach and had a great time at the Salty Crab. Worth noting - Wouldn’t recommend Junkanoo beach for a beach day, as there are nicer options for that. But there is plenty of options for food and drink and does not require a taxi.
