This was my first cruise and based on my experience, I don't think I'd go on another cruise.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
I didn't even feel us leaving the port. Getting on and off the ship was a quick and easy experience.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
The food was okay, although I was upset I couldn't get a water anywhere except the free food areas. I kept being sent to different places like a wild goose hunt just for as glass of water.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
I enjoyed the ice skating show and being able to ice skate myself. We enjoyed eating in the dining room each night. The casino was fun for a little bit. The art gallery was really neat. I was really surprised to see that there were windows that opened up all around the boat with no signs. I almost dropped something out if the window not knowing they were all opened up. This was a really scary experience actually.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
The piano was right above my room and the music was unnecessarily louder each night and I could hear every piano key played from my room until 1am. I was not a happy camper when trying to go to sleep at 10p or 11p each night. The staff offered to move me to another room in the middle if the night but that was to much of an inconvenience so we stayed put. The best the staff could do is give us ear plugs.
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
Each staff member I asked where to find something sent me to a location that was incorrect. The staff was not knowledgeable of where things were or when things would be open. The only staff member that was awesome was our server in the dining room the second and third night.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Yes, everything seemed to be fairly clean from what I could tell. I saw staff members cleaning the lounge chairs and doing regular boat maintenance like staining banisters and whatnot. The only thing I noticed was them not picking up empty glasses right away. The glasses would sit around the ship pilling up.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The cabin seemed clean and tidy. The bed was super comfortable. I ordered the birthday package and was disappointed I paid all that extra money for the door magnet to not even stick on the door from being so bent up.
I'm sorry you had a poor experience. My first cruise was last year on Mariner. We loved it so much that we booked two more cruises! We loved the ship, service, food, entertainment, and port activities.
I never felt unsafe because of open windows. They were very clearly visible and distinguishable from closed ones and always had some kind of safety barrier around.
Perhaps give another RC ship or a different cruise line a try before you swear off cruising altogether. You can research online for specific cabins & decks for most cruise lines. Look at pictures, reviews, and descriptions and choose the one with the optimal location for you.
Sorry you had a bad experience. Most love cruising, but it’s not for everyone. Picking the right cabin location is important to having a good experience. There are numerous websites online with the deck plans for each ship. It’s always best to pick a cabin that is above, below and surrounded by other cabins, not public areas.
So you complained about noise, so they offered to move you....which you turned down. Then you say that the best they could do is offer you ear plugs. What are you wanting them to do? Close the bar at 9 every night?
