Review summary

Another great cruise experience and memorable New Year’s celebration with new friends.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Used the new terminal in Miami. Slightly different process whereby RCI staff used tablets and separate queues rather than being behind a desk. Check In was very quick.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food in the main dining room was it’s usual good standard, would just like to see some new dishes added. As a D+ member, it gets a little repetitive. Windjammer was enjoyable.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Flowrider was the best one I’ve ridden. The revamped sports deck was amazing with the slides, Skypad, rock wall, and even a few hammocks.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Epic fail was the VIP tables introduced. Cost was $200 pp for a table in a roped off section of the promenade, 1 bottle of Dom Champagne and some canapés. We did not buy in to that ridiculous up sell! Heard from other passengers that due to lack of interest, they dropped the price to $150pp (wonder if any refunds were issued to those who paid the higher cost). Aside from that, music in Boleros was way too loud on the other nights.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff were on their “A” game, however, there was no interactive TV for checking the onboard account. Guest services stated it could be accessed through the app but we couldn’t locate it so we went old school and had to get a printed copy instead.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship refurbishment that was done definitely made some decor improvements. Windjammer color scheme was lightened and the layout was improved, however, it would be nice if they made a disabled section at the entrance like what was done on the Navigator.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Promenade cabin was typical and pleasant, however, closet door need a slight repair with a hinge and refrigerator only slightly cooled drinks.

Ship tip

Pre-book specialty restaurants if you’re interested in this option. Given the nature of the short cruise length, this was an issue for some guests not being able to partake.

Ports of call

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Ship docked on New Year’s Day and there was a huge parade and celebration that made if difficult to get out of the city due to traffic. Not a favorite port anyway and we usually stay onboard.

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

4 out of 5
Even with the amount of construction going on (not active while guests are on the island), the island has already been enhanced with a floating bar, private cabanas for rental, a beach volleyball court, ping pong tables, bocce ball and a slightly upgraded beach luncheon. Construction signs anticipate construction to be completed by May 2019 (not sure they’ll make that deadline).

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Immigration divided passengers traveling under passports versus birth certificates. Passport passengers were processed using facial recognition in the new terminal which expedited the process greatly.
