Very disappointing Royal Caribbean

Sail Date: April 05, 2011

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Singles/Friends

Room Type: Oceanview

Ship was dirty, food was poor, entertainment dismal, excursions crew knew nothing about anything and the excursions were really bad.

Pros: Almost nothing. Everything was worse than any of the 20+ other cruises i have taken

Cons: The food was poor - poor selection, badly cooked, unimaginative

Recommends Mariner of the Seas? No.

Ship Quality
Carpets dirty, pieces falling of ceiling
Food and Dining
Same food over and over again. Very poor selection and badly prepared and presented
Almost nil. Bad weather impeded pool activities, so they had nothing. Overweight dancers!!!! Bad singers. Gave the same ice show on two different days - couldn't be bothered to change the choreography or costumes.
Cabin / Stateroom
Not properly cleaned every day
Service and Staff
Wait staff good. All other were barely doing the minimum possible or even less. Cruise director's staff was not visible. Shore excursion staff couldn't get the excursions off on time due to unbelievable lack of training.
Messina, Sicily
Not much to see in htis port
Don't Miss: None
Rhodes, Greece

Don't Miss: Small shops and restaurants in old city
Haifa, Israel
Ashdod, Israel
Planned excursions do not allow for shopping - only at tied shop that had very little selection and high prices.
Don't Miss: Wailing wall and Via Dolorosa
Souda (Chania), Crete
Total waste of time. There is nothing historical to see in any of the planned excursions. Spending an hour looking at a small pond (grandiosely called a lake) was a needless stretching of the tour time to charge more.
Don't Miss: Nothing.
Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey
mandatory visit to carpet shop is a waste of time that could have been used for a better visit to Ephesus
Don't Miss: Ephesus
Piraeus (Athens), Greece

Don't Miss: Parthenon and Acropolis
Naples, Italy
Do not go into Naples, dirty, ugly and a Mafia trap to catch unwary tourists
Don't Miss: Pompeii - but a self tour is better than buying one of the ship's tours
