Review summary

This was a disappointing and horrible cruise that I would not recommend. The ship was old, and work was constantly being done. My stateroom smelled of paint and the Lanai which I paid additional for, was not accessible most of the days! The ports were boring, and the shore excursions were poorly run. Stay away from this cruise line and this destination. I have made a complaint to this line and they has offered me $250 for another cruise and this is after I have told them I would not cruise with them again. Insulting!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The food in the main dining room was OK, nothing special or exciting. I was expecting lots of seafood, and there was not much offered. The food on the Lido Deck, buffet was bad! Either dry outed or soggy! Each day the food offered here was the same, and they closed the area early each night. Even the iced tea and lemonade was so watery! There was a Gala night 2 nights out of the 7 and we were not allowed in the main dining room or the speciality restaurants because we were wearing clean jeans and collared shirts.

Rotterdam Dining Room

The food was OK but I was expecting something much better. The selection on the menu was quite limited and it was not possible to make any substitutions or changes as I was told there was only one way. I was denied seating on the Gala nights as I was wearing clean jeans and a collared shirt. I did not get to use the speciality restaurants on these night either. I was hoping to get seafood, but it was not offered on the menu. Disappointed.

Lido Restaurant

The food in this buffet area was either soggy, over cooked, or not appealing. I was disappointed with the quality of the food. The selection was the same each day and each night.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
There was very little to do. Some of the lectures were on Microsoft windows, or digital cameras! I am an Apple uses, so there was nothing offered. Some of the activities were cancelled, due to scheduling conflicts, and the ones that were offered were crowded and poorly organized. Even the movies in the theatre were not enjoyable as there was banging and noise throughout.

Shopping Arcade

Very limited! Very small selection.

Guest Services / Excursions

1 out of 5

The excursions were terrible as they were all the same and I had 2 cancelled the day before. The substitutions I was offered were poor, and boring.

Internet Center

1 out of 5

There was nothing! They had some computer set up in the library area, but I was not able to go online as the WIFI did not work! There were old windows computers.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
The evening shows were throw backs to the 80'S I felt like I was back at the Catskill mountains! The songs, and themes were insulting. One night they presented some type of multicultural thing with a performance of the Mexican hat dance. It was embarrassing.

Library

1 out of 5

I am an avid reader and of course brought my Kindle loaded with books but I wanted to read a real book. However, there was nothing to read that was current! The selection was old, nothing current, nothing new! There were some comfortable seats, but very few, and they were also occupied.

Wajang Theater

1 out of 5

Went to see a movie and there was hammering, drilling and lots of noise going on right outside the theatre which drowned out the sound of the movie!

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
I complained to the front desk several times about the noise outside my lanai Stateroom and was greeted with a shrug as a response. The waiters in the dining room, if you sat at your usual table, were nice, but when there was open sitting, they got the orders wrong, and could not wait to get you out! At the buffet, the servers, did not smile, and also seemed in a hurry . The folded towels in the stateroom was a nice touch!

Ship Quality

This ship is old! Everything is old! It is a small ship, with little places to just sit and be by yourself!

Ports of call

Boston, Massachusetts

Toured this city on my own. Great city and stayed at the W Hotel, fabulous.

Bar Harbor, Maine

Cute, small tourist trap, just walked the streets. Not much to see, but nice. Went on the Whale watching cruise which was long, cold and boring. Would not recommend.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Hop on Hop Off bus was good. There was plenty to see and walk around.

Sydney, Nova Scotia

Our shore excursion was cancelled by the ship as not enough people to go. Instead just walked around and this port was exactly like the others. Nothing special to do, boring

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

Once again my original shore excursion was cancelled. I was scheduled to do a horse drawn carriage ride and was told the horses went on strike! Instead went on a wine tasting which was terrible. It was very short, very boring and this was not a real tasting, just a selling.

Quebec City, Quebec

Montreal, Quebec

Toured this city on my own after leaving the ship. Once again has a problem with the Hop On Hop Off trolley due to the cancellation of the second day because of a Gay Pride Parade. Should not have been sold the 2 day pass if they knew I could not use it for both days.

Just did this itinerary on this ship in July as a B2B. We were on for 14 days. Our experience was the exact opposite. It was wonderful, staff, accommodations, service and food great, plenty of places to hang out on the ship, ports mostly easily walkable and very interesting. A bit more research prior to sailing would have alerted you to dress code on dressier evenings and certainly would have provided information about what each port offered and special events that may be occurring. Sorry this experience did not suit you, and don't know what you expected, but we loved it and are going again next year with a group of 12 friends.
