Review summary

This is a nice ship that is easy to navigate around. There are plenty of opportunities for different types of activities or for just laying low and relaxing. The staff is outstanding and the food is really good. I've read some negative reviews, but my family and I had a great experience. If you go in expecting an Oasis class experience, you will not get that on Liberty of the Seas. If you want a great ship with a lot of activities, good food, and a super friendly staff, you will be pleased with this ship.

Embarkation

Very organized process. Embarkation went quickly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The main dining room was great. I thought there was plenty of variety over the course of the cruise. We had all our dinners, but one in the MDR. We had a few breakfasts and lunches there as well. The buffet was good and we never had an issue finding a place to sit. Sorrento's pizza was good and they always had fresh slices ready to go. Drinks were great at all the bars and every day they had a daily drink special.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There was plenty to do for a 9-night cruise. The fitness center was big with lots of equipment. Some of it was old, though, but not a big deal for me. The waterslides were fun. The pool deck was usually busy, but it was a fun place to be. My son thought the arcade was just ok. Most of the games were either not working properly or out of order. I had purchased him arcade credit during their Black Friday sale, and he only used less than half of it. Guest services was able to give us the remaining amount as onboard credit, which was nice. The mini golf course was fun and not busy in the evening. There were plenty of opportunities for trivia and bingo. too. The casino could get smoky, but the smell didn't go into other areas outside of the casino.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The ice show was outstanding as well as a juggler who performed on just one night. There was an Eagles tribute band that played one night and they were fantastic. Saturday Night Fever was just ok. Even though I've seen the movie, the story line was hard to follow. The live musicians were all great.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Every staff member on Liberty of the Seas was incredible. I feel like the staff is what really made this sailing wonderful. Everyone was so friendly and helpful.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Yes, it's a ship that will be going in to dry dock and still needs to go through amplification, but when you go in knowing that, there really isn't anything to complain about. The layout was easy to navigate and all parts of the ship were clean. I really enjoyed Liberty of the Seas.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This was an ultra-spacious ocean view cabin in the very front of the ship. I absolutely loved it. If I wanted to be outside, I just need to go to deck 4, and the doors were right there. There were 3 closets and lots of drawer space. My son and I are both sensitive to motion, and as long as we took our Dramamine every morning, we were completely fine in this location. The cabin was clean and there were two large windows that allowed for great views.

Ship tip

We had my time dining, and I recommend still making reservations ahead of time for the entire week. You can do it on day one of the cruise. The non-reservation line was always long.

Ports of call

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

We spent the day snorkeling at Horseshoe Bay. There are a lot of mini buses right at the port that will bring you there for $7.00 per person each way. It was about a 30 minute drive.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

We took a Royal Caribbean excursion to Maho Beach to see the planes land. That was pretty cool!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

This is an easy port to walk around and explore on your own.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Taino Bay is the port and is self-contained. There is a big pool, lazy river, shopping, bars and restaurants. We actually spent most of our time walking around the area outside of the port. I felt very safe venturing out with my husband and teenage son.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
They were very organized with disembarkation, but there were long lines to exit.
