Review summary

Overall, we had a blast. I cannot say enough good things about the entire ship, the crew, the amazing shows, the food, the excursions, and the entire vacation!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Not knowing the new policy about electrical power cords, we (or I should say) I got caught by security with power strips. They went through my entire bag and pulled out the power strips. Even with all of that it took us 34 minutes from the time we got off the shuttle until we were on the ship. If it hadn't have been for the security check, we would have been on the ship in about 15 minutes!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Tried out Johnny Rockets....Very good, but you have to pay extra. Windjammer is the Windjammer....nothing spectacular, but always had a good selection and we NEVER went hungry. Main Dining Room......was amazing! This was the first time we tried it and this was our third cruise. Never knew what we were missing! Good selection every night. We even ventured out and tried new things. You can order whatever you want off the menu. One night I got two main courses because I wasn't sure if I would like the lamb, so I got the lamb and a steak. Lamb was ok, but keep in mind that was the first time I have ever tried it. Steak was awesome! Sorrento's Pizza - very awesome pizza on Deck 5 in the Royal Promenade. Line does get long from time to time, but it goes quick!

Onboard Activities

Used the fitness center first thing in the morning (at 6am when it opens) because hardly anyone was in there. After 8am, it is hard to find a machine without having to share it. Jogging track on deck 12 was pretty good early in the morning as well. The later you try to use it you run into the people that are using it to get from the front of the ship to the back or vice versa. Pools and hot tubs were great! The water slides were great as well.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Saturday Night Fever show was a must! It was very well put together. Also the show "In The Air" was awesome! Very talented group of performers! The Ice Skating show was spectacular! Another group of amazing performers! That is a must see as well!

Children's Programs

Our 7 and 9 year old were with us, but they weren't interested in the kids clubs, they wanted to do everything we did.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Room Attendant - Valent (from India)......He was amazing! Our room was always clean. He made some amazing towel animals that our kids LOVED! I cannot say enough about how awesome he was. Main Dining Room Waitress - Huibo (from China)....She was AMAZING as well. She knew our names and faces very quickly and gave us recommendations off the menu which were outstanding. I hope that both of them are still there when we go back next year!!

Ship Quality

The layout was very easy to understand. Everything was ALWAYS clean! Yes some will say this ship is "out dated" as it has been refurbished since it was built, however it is going in for Royal Amplified after April of 2021. I Would love to see it after it gets "Amped", but I know it won't be coming back to Galveston. Can't wait to see what ship will replace it

Cabin / Stateroom

In the front of the ship, nice view, very easy to get to everything on the ship. Great for a family of four!

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

Galveston was embarkation port. We usually go down on the Friday before we leave out. We stay in the Webster Area (just South of Houston and about a 30 minute drive to the port). You can find a hotel for just over $100 per night. The closer you get to Galveston and in Galveston it is about $200 or more per night. We usually do Kemah Boardwalk on Friday night and then spend all day Saturday wondering around Galveston before we head out Sunday. We go to Murdochs (at 23rd and Seawall Blvd). It is a nice shop with an amazing porch to just sit and feel the breeze from the Gulf of Mexico. Lost of history in that store. It gets hit by hurricanes and they keep rebuilding it. Last major hurricane was Ike in 2008. There is also Pleasure Pier (at 25th and Seawall Blvd). Fun time for the family. We have never been but you also have Moody Gardens which I have heard good things about.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Very few shops but there was ALOT of construction going on, so you can tell they are trying to upgrade it big time. Not much to do in port. Our excursion was Gumbalimba Park Preservation. The ride over was about 25 minutes and our tour guide was very informative and gave lots of stats and info about the island. The park itself was pretty cool with lots of information about the island as well. We got to hang with the Macaws and Kapoochen Monkeys which was awesome!

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Alot more shops than Roatan, Honduras. Our excursion was Adventure at Auqa Park. It is a water park our entire family LOVED! There is a kid zone which has a ton of slide for the kiddos and our 7 and 9 year old loved them. There is a huge Myan pyramid that has a bunch of body slides and tube slides coming off of it which was very awesome. Then there is a lazy river to just grab a tube and float along. I took us about 10 minutes to get there and the shuttle goes back to port every 30 minutes, so we did not have to wait to go back to the ship.

Cozumel, Mexico

This was our third time to Cozumel. Last time we went was two years ago and they have done some MAJOR upgrades to this port! Tons of shopping stores and the anchor restaurants are Margaritaville, Bubba Gump Shrimp, and Senor Frogs. Our excursion was the Deluxe Beach Break at Playa Mia. This was the third time we had done that. It is a water park on the beach. The kids love the water park that has two slides, a kid zone and then a huge pool just to hang out in. Then on the beach part of it, there is jet skis, paddle boats, inflatable things to climb and jump on, TONS of chairs along the beach, beach volleyball, and several different bars to get a drink from. There is also a huge tent that had a nice buffet. If you plan on doing this excursion, make sure the free buffet and free drinks are included. I noticed several people didn't have the wristbands for the buffet and drinks and they weren't too happy about that. It took about 25-30 minutes to get there from the port on our shuttle.

Disembarkation

We got into port around 6am. Our tag was to be the first off the ship at 8am. We were off the ship at 7:34 and made a quick stop at security to pick up the electrical power strips that they took at embarkation and was the first to the shuttle and at the car around 7:50. Everything was smooth and fast. Quickest we have ever gotten of the ship out of all three cruises!
