Liberty of the Seas

7 Night Western Caribbean (Galveston Roundtrip)

Sail date: January 20, 2019

Ship: Liberty of the Seas

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Review summary

Typical cruise from Galveston. The greatest complaint was the 750 children one board. Over half were undisciplined and without parental supervision. RCL was running a "kids sail free" special. Will never sail during these promotions if I can help it.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Some food items were vastly improved (pizza and apple pie). Other food items were good. Lunch in the Windjammer could stand some more variety.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Fitness center has adequate equipment but much of it needed replacement or repair!

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Saturday Night Fever was excellent. Otherwise the entertainment was average at best.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Wait staff in Windjammer and main dining room were excellent. Room steward was about average.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
For an older ship the Liberty was in excellent shape. Somer of the carpets in the passageways need replacing but the staff tried to keep everything "shipshape".

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was usually quite clean. It was adequate in size and quiet for the most part. There were children next door that at times were noisy.

Ship tip

Be patient when debarking at ports of call. There is no need to rush.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

5 out of 5
Did some individuals sightseeing. Dined at one of the numerous seafood restaurants.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Not very appealing. Stayed in the port area...no excursions.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
Clean and safe but quite expensive. Food and drinks especially.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Too many ships in port so very crowded. Visited a local bar about two blocks away which was quiet, scenic, and reasonable.

Disembarkation

Absolutely awful! Took over 21/2 hours to get off the ship and clear custioms. No explanation from RCL.

We will cruise Viking Cruise Line from time to time, no one under 16 allowed. I book cruises in the off season and make sure the ships have a nice adult area
