Review summary

Can say enough about how great this cruise was. The time together as a family (2 parents, 2 adult children, 2 grandchildren (12 & 4), all enjoyed different aspects of the cruise. We were able to spend time together, but also time apart, to each have time to do what they wanted to do and enoyed our evening meal time. GREAT!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Our embarkation was FAST. We were 4 adults + 2 children, arrived at 10:00 am, no one in front of us at security, NO wait at the check-in counter, it took us all a total of 15 minutes from the time we walked into the terminal until we were at the waiting area to board. SMOOTH. Definitely the fastest we have ever gone through embarkation process in the 13 cruises we've taken.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate in the Main Dining Rooms mostly, a couple of times at the buffets, not at all in the specialty restaurants. The Dining Room was our favorite! Servers were wonderful, had the same ones the whole time and who also attended to us if they saw us come in for breakfast or lunch. Loved the food selection and attention. We were 4 adults + 2 children, we felt extra attention given to us every night. Loved it.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
A variety of activities made it great for our group - some walked, some soaked, some casino-ed, all loved it. The H2O zone was great for kids, sauna & steam rooms wonderful, quiet spots easy to find throughout the day, the promenade was our faorite place to sit, talk and people watch or strike up a conversation with fellow cruisers.

H20 Zone

5 out of 5

the H2O zone was a busy place in the afternoon, a lot of children + parents, grandparents and various other caretakers keeping an eye on their special ones. So many things to do, and it had plenty of Ship Crew supervising for safety and security. Our grandson loved it.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Ice Preformance was AMAZING. Apparently it was the first preformance of a new team that had just come onboard on this cruise. They were fantastic, having just watched the Winter Olympics ice skating a week or so before, we thought the show was wonderful with a full range of costumes. Definitely a winner. There was a headliner show with acrobatics, singing and dancing - very good. The Best of Britain "The Beatles". The Donavan and Rebecca show were Fantastic - really outstanding. The Saturday Night Fever was well done, but I was not familiar with the story line or songs, so not as enjoyable.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Our 4 year old grandson loved his Ocean Adventure - Aquanauts - group activities. Easily joined in on the fun and from what the staff said, he did great. He talked about his activites and fun at dinner every night.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
TOPS! Our waiters were great and served us with enthusiam and respect. Both the waiter and assistant were attentive and considerate and extremely thoughful about the little things or requests. We pooled together to give them extra gratuities at the end. Our room steward was quiet, but always greeted us with a smile and did an excellent job, and was so quick to respond to our requests.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
One of the things we love about these RCI class ships is the promenade. It's a walking street with shopping and pubs and although there were 4300 guests on the ship, we ALWAYS found a comfy place to sit on the promenade, whether at a pub, the vintage wine bar, the café promenade or even a bench where we parked all our luggage (for 6 of us) for the first hour or so while waiting for our cabins to be ready.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were all suprised at the larger than expected size of our inside cabins, It was more spacious than other inside cabins we have had in the past. There was enough room to walk on the side of our queen size bed, a curtain between the bed and the sitting area, plenty of cabinet and closet space for clothes and miscellaneous items.

Ship tip

EXPLORE! There are so many great places to go on the ship. Take time to walk around, look in all the nooks and crannies, outside and inside, every deck. You might find a favorite spot for one or two of you to sit, talk, walk, drink, climb, swim, soak, think, or stand at the front of the ship. Try different things. Don't get stuck on a certain place, time, activity, etc. - experiement, enjoy, EXPLORE!

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

4 out of 5
Didn't spend any time exploring Galveston. Spent the night before, but didn't go out.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

3 out of 5
Did not like the port, per se, walked to town to explore and get a local taxi. Worked out okay to get something cheaper than at the port - less than half the price. We had researched ahead of time and knew where we were going and enjoyed our time at the beach (Fosters Resort). The 30 min drive there was okay, interesting view, but the road was rough, a lot of pot holes, but was also undergoing repair - men with shovels filling in the holes after a particularly raining winter season. Over all enjoyed our time. If we do it again, we'll choose an all inclusive resort - with transport, food and drink all taken care of ahead of time.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
This was an easy port to negotiate, get a taxi (we took the trolley) to town for 4 of us, to a restaurant, Tropicante, that we reserved ahead of time. We bought our drinks and food there and enjoyed our time. It was a great experience, though we didn't go into the water much. Grandson played in the sand. We just had fun eating and drinking. If we did it again, we pay for each item rather than keeping an open tab. We might also go to an All Inclusive for the day.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We've been to Cozumel 5 times and have enjoyed it each time. This time we went to El Cid Hotel, right next to the International Pier. Easy walk, only a block or two from the pier exit. Paid $20pp for entrance, $12pp of that was for food & drink credit at the restaurant. Bucket of 5 beers for $14. Small beach area, pool, kids pool, hot tub - all very great and well worth the money. Grandson, 4 years, was free. We got out early, stayed late, had shade, sun, sand, water - what else is needed. The port area had a lot of shopping area as well. Many great options in Cozumel.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
This was easy. We Self-Assist disembarked, we carried our own luggage. Pretty easy and simple. I believe it was about 20 minutes for our group of 6 people to get from ship to outside the terminal. We parked at EZ Parking, self-parking, I walked to get the van and drove back to get the family.
