The cruise fulfilled our expectations. It was a fun getaway but nothing special.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We arrived at the port of Galveston at 12:30 PM and were in our cabin by 1:00 PM. Check-in was smooth and efficient. The one annoying thing was the Abandon Ship Drill. It was conducted on the open deck and took more than 30 minutes to complete due in part by some guests not arriving at their assigned muster station in a timely manner. That was a long time to stand for some of the older passengers.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
We were assigned “anytime dining “ in the Rembrandt dining room. Food was average for a cruise ship and service was excellent. Food in the Windjammer (buffet style) could have been better. Much of the same fare every day. Service was above average. Since we sailed previously on this ship, the food quality and variety has deteriorated. We did not avail ourselves of any of the speciality dining venues.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
There was virtually no enrichment lectures. There were three sea days. I would have expected at least something to be offered during there times. There was none.
There was adequate cardiovascular equipment as well as weight machines. However, much of the cardiovascular equipment needed replacing as constant use has resulted in noticeable wear and tear.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
Shipboard entertainment was not very good. The production number was weird at best. The comedian was good but everything else was either below average or not relevant. The play, Saturday Night Fever, was performed the last night of the cruise when guests were packing. Seems like this could have been scheduled earlier in the cruise.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service in all venues was excellent. Our room steward, Grace, was exceptional.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The Liberty of the Seas seemed a bit tired. It needs a yard period to properly update and maintain the ship. The crew does a good job but there is just too much to do during active cruising season. Some specifics include replacing or cleaning cabin couches, repaintin
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Our cabin was on the ninth deck, a superior balcony class. The living area was quite adequate with ample storage. It was clean albeit worn. Our stateroom attendant, Grace, did an admirable job in keeping the space clean and tidy. The cabin was reasonably quiet and the location within the ship was fine.
Ship tip
Don't expect a new ship. Liberty is a bit tired. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable vacation.
We walked off carrying our own luggage. The process was very efficient and orderly. We assembled in the dining room, and once the ship was cleared for debarkation, we left the ship. The entire process took less than thirty minutes.
