Review summary

This was a smooth and relaxing cruise. The weather did NOT cooperate with us as we had rain all but one day. This cruise, as with any cruise , is what you make of it. You can relax around the ship and enjoy the quiet and peace of the pool decks or sleep in. The food was good but it is not like moms, LOL. The entertainment was good and for the kids there are loads of things for them to do.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Until you get into the higher levels of the Crown & Anchor Society you will wait in a very long line to get through the security checkpoints. Upstairs you will wait again in a line comparible with your C&A level. It is painless but if you're in a hurry to get your first drink you'll just have to grin and bear it. LOL

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
I only ate in the main dinning restaurant once to get the feel for it. I used the Windjammer Buffet for the majority of my meals. The food there was very good and they offer many different types of foods. They also offer different ethnic foods on different nights so it is worth checking that out. The do have Mongolian two nights a week and that was done right.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There are three pools. One is for adults only (16 and up) and the other are located out in the main top deck area. One pool is heated somewhat to take the chill out of the water. There is a wonderful area for the smaller kids to enjoy with different sides and water features. The pool deck loungers are not as plentiful as you expect but there are lads on the upper decks fro you to use.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The entertainment did exactly that. The shows were real good and I am glad I made the time to attend them. The ice skating show was very good and if you go get there way early as the seating is limited.

Children's Programs

NO KIDS!!!!!!!!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was very friendly and would take the time to talk to you if you wanted them too. My room steward remembered my name the entire cruise.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Even though the ship underwent a refit almost 2 years ago it is showing wear and tear. There is mismatched carpet on the stairwells and rust is showing on the outer decks. The maintenance crew was painting some areas but this cruise was a wet one with rain every day but one.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
My cabin was tight even for one person but it was comfortable. I had them put both beds together to make a queen sized bed but there was nothing to keep the together so the middle riff was always there. The room had lots of hangers and plenty of storage for two although you may wind up keeping some items in your suitcase. My cabin steward kept me with ice twice a day but you have to ask him for that. I also tipped him at the end for doing that for me. The shower was tiny! It was about a 3 foot circle with hardly any room to get washed properly. This was my second time on Liberty and second time I had an Interior room. I only use it to sleep, get cleaned up and relax some so I feel I do not NEED a larger space.

Ship tip

Elevators are ONLY at the front (6) and back (8) of the ship so plan accordingly. Get to the shows early as seating is at a premium.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

Galveston is nice place to walk around the downtown area. The sea wall has Pleasure Pier if you want that type of environment

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

There isn't much to do here if you want to walk around. You can go out the gate and walk into the small town there and get a chance to see how the people there have to live. The men will wait fro you outside the gate to sell you something. IF you don't buy they may tag along as you walk and talk to you and tell you a bout the town but at the end they WILL expect a tip.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
This was my first visit to Costa Maya and I was impressed by it even if it is small There is much to do just off the dock area with a swimming pool with a swim up bar, swimming with the dolphins and/or stingrays. They even have a bird aviary. There is a 3 story observation area that gives you a better perspective of the area. There is also a water park but it was closed due to the rain we had.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
We docked at the International pier. Lots of shopping can be done here. You can go out of the shopping area and walk the sidewalks to other vendors that are located down by the other dock about 500 yards away. You can take a taxi to Punta Langosta where the shopping mall is and many more shops.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
NO Customs forms to fill out this time around. If you self-assist they you can get off quite quickly. Customs went faster than I expected but you will still wait in line. Shuttles to yoru car or busses to teh airports are right across the frontage road.

In some ways my wife and I are pleased when we can take the stairs instead of the elevators. It is faster, healthier and good for that extra dessert.

Only solution I can think of for the food. Take your Mom on the next cruise, eat the exact same food as your Mom, then the food WILL be like Mom's.
