Review summary

Since this was to be our first cruise, we obviously aren't happy it was cancelled. BUT that wasn't RCIs fault, what was their fault was lack of communication about when the ship would arrive, how to get our refunds, lack of customer service when calling in, etc.

Embarkation

Really? I am getting this request to review the process. We were required to travel into a dangerous area during a hurricane. We were required to be able to be available to board a ship that was not in the port and was not able to be in the port. RCI did their best to accommodate us after the fact, however, this still left us stuck in Houston, in flood waters, for 3 days. There was no compensation for the hotel, food, or transportation changes that we had to make after our cruise was finally cancelled. The most frustrating thing is that now that we DID NOT cruise, we are being asked to rate the cruise we DID NOT TAKE!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Never got a change to eat on the ship, never saw the ship. So the food I didn't get to eat was terrible.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Really? We didn't get onboard.

Entertainment

Never got on the ship

Children's Programs

No children

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Customer service has been less than helpful, but this has nothing to do with the service on the ship we didn't get on. The people on the ship were probably very lovely. Some day I may wish to cruise with RCI, but I can't say for sure

Charm66: You made a good choice in picking Royal Caribbean for your cruise so please don't get discouraged about Royal or about cruising. As noted above not only did Royal not have the information but you have to remember their infrastructure and their people were also under stress and in the target of uncontrollable emergencies. We cruised for many years in July and August, with our children. We cruised into two tropical depressions. We had ports diverted due to weather one diverted due to medical emergency and had excursions cancelled due to weather. True we've never been on a cruise that was stranded at sea or cancelled but there's not been a single cruise that we regret. If you have $10,000 a person Cruise budget, you have some other Cruise Line choices for great service and exotic itineraries, but for a combination of ship selection, itineraries, great entertainment, activities and great service the Royal and Celebrity combination is hard to beat for the foreseeable future. You should be able to get some compensation, at least a discount or credit for a future Cruise, so give it a shot and start building your loyalty points with Royal and if not with Royal find a good ship on a good Cruise Line. There are lots of good choices these days but all are subject to the weather in their part of the world:-)

I know it's frustrating but the port is not owned or operated by RC. They didn't know when the port would reopen. Their crystal ball was as murky as ours. Harveys loop and 2nd landfall made that even more challenging. If the port authority had simply told everyone "we are closed until Friday" they could have made plans based on that, but that isn't what occurred. Cruising in hurricane season requires patience and flexibility.

Understand your frustration, but keep in mind you are one of the rare people that understand RCI doesn't control the weather, a lot of folks they are dealing with want their money back and a free cruise, or more

The weather is always amazing too.

Don't get discouraged. Book another one. We cruise every February for our anniversary. No threats of hurricanes then either.
