Review summary

Did not take as cruise was cancelled by RC on Sunday 8/27/17. The Port of Galveston was closed for several days prior to Sunday 8/27/17, but RC would not cancel cruise even though the port was closed. It is our understanding that RC would have preferred we cancel our reservation so that RC could have kept our $2,500 paid for the cruise. This may not be their policy, but that is what we were told by several parties. Therefore, we did not cancel, suffered the total loss of our vehicle, BUT did receive a credit of $2,500. Big whoo-p-do.

Embarkation

Royal Caribbean said the trip was on and leaving as scheduled on Sunday 8/27/17, However, Saturday 8/26/17 we were notified it was delayed a day until Monday 8/28/17. Sunday 8/27/17 was the day Hurricane Harvey predicted all week leading up to Sunday devastated Galveston and Houston which is when we received an e-mail that the cruise was cancelled. Sunday, 8/27/17 was also the day that our car was flooded and totaled in Houston where we WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN had Royal Caribbean cancelled the cruise on Friday or Saturday. Therefore, we took a net $30,000 loss on our car while the Liberty of the Seas was cruising the Gulf eventually docking in Miami instead of Galveston. RC did give us a full 100% refund of our total cruise cost of approximately $2,500. The car being totaled is our loss as we did not cancel the cruise and forfeit our $2,500 to RC.

so you didn't take the cruise but did you attempt to drive to the port anyway or just ignore media suggestions and drive the flooded streets of houston? be great full you got a refund. they technically didn't even have to refund your money unless you had travel insurance. everyone knows there are risks when booking a cruise during hurricane season.

Oh and btw, we didn't have insurance.... can't wait for 10/7. 😎

We cruise every year usually 1st week of October, we we diverted once to Canada instead of a Bermuda, that was on the Liberty 2 years ago. We received an $800 credit (back on my cc), I also see on RCCL's website that the 2 cruises for 9/8 have been cancelled and will be refunding 100% plus a 25% credit for booking a new cruise, so I have no idea what you're talking about... RCCL 👍👍

Reasons people book in Sept. and Oct. is because 1. its cheaper 2. kids are back in school so the cruises are much quieter, the weather is usually very nice. Usually the best time to go. Have gone on many fall cruises and it our 1st choice of times to go. Dont think about hurricanes when I am booking. We leave out of Miami on Sept. 25. 17. .

All the models had Irma going up the east coast, now it appears to be making a direct line into the gulf, tomorrow it could turn north, South, or stall and dissipate. If any of that happened with Harvey you would be complaining that they cancelled your cruise for no reason.

How did you lose your car? If the cruise was cancelled, why was your car at risk?

Yet YOU booked a cruise during hurricane season!

Sorry. I do not believe there were any winners here; cruisers, cruise lines, residents that were hit. Nobody!

That is how they do it.
