The original 7 day cruise was ok. We had been to Cozumel before and knew what to expect there. Roatan was amazing. Costa Maya was dirty and the beach had dogs and cats wondering around along with bottle caps in the ocean. Our cruise was extended and diverted to Miami because of Hurricane Harvey and I felt overall a multi Billion dollar company could have provided more. The ship already has upcharges which I hate, but come on discounting internet by 50% due to a hurricane, give me a break. I know they are not obligated to do anything, but this was one ship in their fleet that was impacted and they could have really stepped up and offered some concessions like help with airfare or waiving upcharges at restaurants for those who stayed on board. The "all inclusive" appearance of cruises is not worth what you pay for.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
No issues getting onto the ship, we arrived around noon and parked across the street. Lines moved smoothly.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
Very disappointed with the overall food quality. We ate at the buffet several times and it was crowded and although there were lots to choose from the food taste was just ok. Did not try the specialty restaurants and the anytime dining was ok. Nothing great. Not even as good of quality as Chilis.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Same old boring stuff unless you are under the age of 20. Casino was fun (hate that they still allow smoking). Waterslides and Surfing looked fun. Put-Put would have been better if it had not been so windy. Rock Climbing wall was open at weird times.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The best performances were by the Comedians, and the Saturday Night Fever Musical. If you were under 40 you would have a hard time connecting with the entertainment that was offered.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
The staff worked non-stop to make sure things were in order, however overall they were not friendly or engaging. Definitely did not feel like I was valued as a customer.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Although the ship has undergone a major renovation, it still looks tired in lots of places. This was especially apparent in the dining room. The chairs were worn and stained, deck chairs were missing caps so they would be level, carpet is worn.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Cabin was great and conveniently located 2 floors up from the anytime dining and just a short distance from the elevators. The balcony is nice, however at night there are various things inside the room that vibrate which can make sleeping a challenge.
Ship tip
I would only recommend this ship to people with families of kids between 5-15. The ship would be a blast for them. Or maybe if you are a first time cruiser it is a good experience. We have been on 2 other cruises with Carnival and from what we were told be friends and family is that RCL is a significant step up in quality. We just did not experience that. It was similar at best.
Our favorite stop was to Roatan. We did a two reef snorkel which was amazing and we had a surprise private beach experience that was included aftertwards.
We did a beach day which was away from the pier. Would not recommend doing anything other than the shops and pool that is right off the terminal. This is a small fishing village with very small dirty beaches. If you want authentic shopping outside the terminal this is the place. Otherwise stay on the boat.
Play Mia Beach Park is awesome. Clean beach lots of fun things are included. Would suggest skipping the buffet lunch. It didn't look very good. Save some money and book directly on their website and they provide shuttle directly from outside the port.
RC treated us like absolute royalty we stayed at liberty of the seas in for an extra week for free, got to see Miami and they offered all kind of deals. People that didn't get on their cruise, too bad of a week they picked, us who stayed until the ship returned to Galveston had the vacation of our lifetime. The ship is more beautiful than any carnival I've been on. Elegant, lots of places to entertain, Nice Promenade, cupcake class was lots of fun, amazing shows, beautiful pools and kids water park, 3 water slides for adults really fun, flow rider, disco, chapel, shops, our room attendant was awesome, they let us take off the added tips from our bill, and pay them at our own discretion, the food was delicious, great casino. Captain kept us informed at all times. I mean they were also stranded not knowing what to do. Miami is HQ for them and they needed to fill up on supplies. I don't think we will ever be as fortunate to pay for a one week cruise and get 5 extra days at no cost and get to see Miami for a bit and have free shuttles. The complainers have nothing better to do. Half the people got off in Miami, their loss they should have stayed. It was the cruise of a lifetime and I highly recommend it, classy and elegant no trashy people on board!
your opinion is your opinion, and you entitled to it. however RC is not obligated to provide anything but food and safety in a time like this. they could have brought you back to the port and let you all sit at the port for 5 days until you could get out. think of the not so nice alternative options they had.
We were on this cruse. I thought RC did a great job accommodating all of us. They took care of everything and did all they could. They were nice enough to discount and stop gratuity to the rooms. We weren't concerned about money. Most of the food you eat is free and they had fun activities. Talking to people on the ship who have homes that are flooded back in Houston was my concern. They also provided free internet and phone calls for 30 minutes so you can get ahold of who you needed to.
