Review summary

The cruise was very good until late Friday night when 6 members of our group of 12 got very sick from the evening food at the Windjammer. We reported it to the MGMT of the Windjammer Saturday. afternoon. they basically blew us off (nicely) saying we were the only ones complaining. We were able to determine the food item that was the culprit by canvassing all in our group. However, we heard other families complaining out on deck 11. Then, the next day in our departure lounge, there were several more families discussing one or two people sick in their families. Several of them planned to tell their stories on the internet!

Ship tip

They won't want to hear my food and sickness story, especially when one of my granddaughters was still sick and throwing up Monday!

You can get a stomach bug at home. Getting it on the ship doesn't mean you should blow it up.

You've actually reported this everywhere you could, this is the third time I've seen it.

As RN seen food poisoning set in couple hours. A Virus "bug" and food poisoning are 2 different things as lab341 indicated ... still no fun

lab341    7 years ago

Mims: You would be correct 12-48 hours with average falling around 33 hour incubation. Contagious frim the moment you feel ill to at least 3 days after recovery.

Norovirus travels fast. Sorry for your group. That's why I'm so diligent about hand washing and sanitizer. Everyone touching all those serving utensils Yuk!

you have thousands of pounds of food passing thru hundreds of people's hands. "sh**" happens. 😉

I've had bad food more than once. it is about 2 to 6 hrs "for me" but fortunately it usually passes in 24 hrs

RG: That is not correct. A stomach bug caused by a virus takes 24-48 hours. Food Poisoning caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites takes 2-6 hours after eating contaminated food. Symptoms are similar but with food poisoning it's violent explosions from both ends. If you aren't laying in the tub with the shower on and bucket in hand you have a virus. lol

I for one know within a few hours if something doesn't agree with my system. Full blown food poisoning wasn't claimed, but something off can certainly present symptoms within hours.

It takes more time for food poisoning symptoms to appear than that normally. I would not jump to conclusions on this one myself. I am sure your group was exposed to any number of things over the course of 24 hours previous that could of been the culprit.
