Review summary
Let's face it, you're on a cruise. That alone makes it a great experience! This was my 4th cruise--2 with RCCL, and 2 NCL. We had a balcony cabin facing aft, which has the best view and the largest balconies. The room was spacious and attractive, albeit dated. There were only TWO electrical outlets--both at the 'vanity' area. For a family of 4 with iphones, ipads, etc., this was problematic! And when it comes time to plug in blow dryers and curling irons... the screeching! the drama! And NO plugs bedside or by the couch. Not to mention, in the bathroom. The beds were hard as rocks. I cannot emphasize this enough. It was beyond uncomfortable--it was painful, and kept me from sleeping most the time. The pillows were neither feather nor foam, but filled with some kind of thin stuffing; and they may have been 2" thick, at the most. Just awful. The provide NO amenities except for some cheap 2-in-1 shampoo in the shower.
One of the primary reasons we booked this cruise was for the 'boomerang slide' which was closed for maintenance throughout our entire cruise. Nothing about this on the website.
The buffet, Windjammer, was excellent. Had a good meal and a good visit every time. Would have preferred if the back were 'open air' like it is on NCL, but at least it had lots of windows and good views. Food options were numerous and delicious!
The main dining room was HORRIBLE! Just AWFUL! Poor, slow, and inexperienced waiters, food selections were VERY LIMITED, repetitive, and basically disgusting. We only 'ate' there 3 nights, and I usually left mid-meal in disgust. The décor was lovely, but the lighting was operating room bright and there was no music or it was inaudible.
Chops Grill was amazing! Slow but competent service, pleasant ambiance, and the food was amazing!! Definitely worth it!
Sabor was good. Different. New restaurant definitely has kinks to work out; but we enjoyed ourselves. Jalapeno-cucumber margarita was AMAZING!!
Son and hubby loved the flow rider. Mommy and daughter enjoyed the spa treatments!
Comedy shows were hilarious, but other shows were crappy!! (Like watching a bad high school talent show!)
Ports were nice. Loved Little French Key on Roatan. Roatan, itself, was very dirty and poor. Snorkeling in Belize was AMAZING! But the ride to get out there was LONG and PAINFUL in a crappy boat. However, it was so worth it, we'd do it again! The tender process in Belize was a NIGHTMARE! People with RCCL shore excursions got ALL the first boats so that people with tenders 1-3 were left standing in the hot congested hallways for over an HOUR and a HALF! (People w later tenders than that probably missed their excursions.)
Cozumel was fun. Had the BEST port area of the bunch! We did an independent island tour with swimming and tequila tasting. Not much of a tour, but the tequila stop and beach stop were fantastic!!
Sailing from Galveston was a logistical nightmare and added another $300 to our cost getting transfers out of Houston Hobby. We would not do that again. Plus it was about an hour each way in the car.
