Review summary

We booked this cruise at the last minute while on another, longer cruise and really enjoyed it. But we'll likely stick with the longer cruises that have more ports.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
HAL was very late starting embarkation and as a result, we missed our massages that were reserved. We did get rebooked but were disappointed we had to do so.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food in the MDR was great as we have come to expect. The two specialty restaurants we ate in were also excellent.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Tai chi, pickleball, trivia, bingo, the spa, and fitness center were all great.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The singer and the comedian were great! We did not like the dance troupe, but others did.

Children's Programs

I don't have children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The crew are excellent at customer service and obviously well-trained.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Cleanliness is obviously a top concern for HAL and the ship was kept spotless!

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our cabin was well situated and clean. The size is common for verandah staterooms but they are small and you have to move furniture to get to the balcony. The bed was comfortable and we had plenty of storage space and coat hangers.

Ship tip

Don't count on getting our latte before 7:00 AM!

Ports of call

San Diego, California

5 out of 5
We always find something fun to do when we're in SD.

Ensenada, Mexico

4 out of 5
We docked at 6:30PM and left at 11:30 PM so our stay was very brief. We took the Taco Tour which was excellent!

San Francisco, California

5 out of 5
SAn Francisco is always fun. We took a highlights and dim sum lunch tour and loved it!

Santa Barbara, California

5 out of 5
Our stay was FAR too brief but our wine and chocolate tour was awesome!

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
the Port of SD needs to up its game! We got off the ship in a timely manner but then had to wait well over 45 mins. in completely disorganized queues to get a cab and they won't let Uber/Lyft onto the pier. As a result, we missed an appt.
