Review summary

Ship design was precarious, too many people for too few staff members, and public areas weren't kept up regularly. (Likely due to the thrice-mentioned staffing issue.) Half of my family contracted COVID on the boat, and we were treated like utter garbage when that revelation hit. Other than our room stewards (who were excellent), the room itself (the balcony view was breathtaking), and the food in the main areas... this is likely the last cruise I'll ever go on. Period.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
It was as laborious as any embarkation experience. Neither good nor bad. There was quite a crowd, though.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Lido Deck, Dive-In, and New York Pizza were the highlights. Dining room was too crowded, and woefully understaffed.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
There didn't appear to be much to do on the boat. As indicated by the amount of people milling about on "at-sea" days.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Other than drinking, their didn't appear to be much to do on the ship. And I don't drink.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our two room stewards, Hendra and Gigi, took really good care of us. They were the highlight of the trip.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
This related to my "understaffed" comment above. The staff the ship had were excellent, but they also seemed really, really tired. It was a crowded ship, and there didn't seem to be enough people to handle all of them. Public areas were rather messy.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The room was delightful. And the room stewards, Hendra and Gigi, took very good care of them.

Disembarkation

Over half of my family contracted COVID on the cruise. And we were - quite literally - dumped on the side of the dock.

It really puts a damper on a vacation when one gets ill. Wearing a mask in crowded areas and regular sanitizing of hands is always a good precaution. So far, it’s worked for us. Hopefully your next cruise will be more enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.

Of the people that got sick I bet they were not wearing masks. We have been on 6 trips sense covid without getting sick. Put on a mask and don't blame Holland.

I have been on Koningsdam twice and one of the best features is the evening entertainment venues. BB King’s, The Rolling Stones Rock Room, the Lincoln Center Stage and Billboard Onboard provide a live music option that should suit just about any taste, unless you are a hardcore polka fan.

Sorry about getting COVID. It would help if they still required people to get tested b4 boarding. The buffet utensils and elevator buttons are your biggest culprits. Wonder y they treated u like crap cause of covid?

Yes. Sadly Covid is everywhere…. With winter weather coming, there will be more of it. Sorry for your experience.
