Review summary

After spending a great deal of money our cruise started out on a very sour note and got worse instead of better the ports were veyr nice the Hollland American Expiernce was a great disappointment one that I shall not take again

We are getting ready to board the Oosterdam in San Diego on Saturday. We have been on her before so we know what we are doing. There really is no night life but we are not into nightlife. For anyone looking for entertainment and partying Holland really isn’t the line you want to take. Sorry for your disappointment.

Astonished by this review: we disembarked the Koningsdam (21 day trip) the day these folks boarded, our experience was the complete opposite in practically every way. Music onboard was excellent (Rock band and BBKings), Lido was the best buffet food we’ve ever experienced on a ship, goodness knows what selections the reviewer made to describe it as ‘tasteless’, the Asian food & salads were outstanding, the absence of daytime activities was probably because the ship was in excellent ports 8 days out of 11, the shower in our cabin was a walk-in affair much bigger than on most ships... I get the feeling the reviewer got off to a bad start through arriving late (presumably well after the last boarding time given the alleged firmness of the words used to his wife) and never got over it...

Holland America is primarily known for it’s itineraries and not the ships or onboard activities. As long as you are aware of that before you sail, it is fine.
