Review summary

The Island Princess is an impressive ship, the crew was very attentive and the ship was run very efficiently. The entertainment on board was good, a couple very good comedians, and the production numbers were well staged. The only cons were the food, there was an abundance of course, but quality was that of a Dennys, edible but not up to standards I would have expected. We ended up using the buffet more than the dining rooms, because the service in the dining rooms was unreasonably slow. I understand the number of people being served is immense, but almost 2 hours for dinner is way too long. One other minor complaint would be the "celebrity" on board for a production show, Adrian Zmed, a has been actor and singer who has a little talent, but was out of place here. The show was all about his "rise to fame", and did not meet the standards of even cruise ship fare. The scenery we saw was fantastic! The shore excursions offered were quite well run, and a big variety was offered.

Ports of call

Ketchikan, Alaska

We didn't do an excursion here, as time in this port was minimal. A shopping mecca, I recommend getting your souveneers here as the prices on most things are the best in this port. The Tongass stores offer the best variety.

Skagway, Alaska

Quaint older town, but well maintained. The White Pass railroad is the one do do here.

Juneau, Alaska

Roberts mountain tram is a must do, as is Mendenhall glacier and the Salmon hatchery.

Pros: Great service, undescribable scenery!

Cons: Food was just mediocre. Lots of it, but not great.
