Review summary

Overall was a fantastic cruise. Small room for improvements. We got lucky and saw the northern lights!

Embarkation

4 out of 5
It is horrible that P&O do not let you choose your arrival time, you are just given one by the cruise line. Thankfully I didn’t have to wait long to get through early and was on the ship within 5 minutes of checking in. Need to allow passengers to choose their arrival time!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Great selection of drinks and a wide choice of venues to eat at!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There’s so much going on you cannot decide what to see and do next.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
All of them are great! With the exception of one comedian which wasn’t able to read the room and their jokes not sticking as they’d hope and just continuing with the same material.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The staff were fantastic, much better than when I was onboard in June during their chickenpox outbreak among staff.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Very modern design, easy to get around. Not a single piece of rubbish anywhere.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Great cabin but storage isn’t that great. Just had enough storage for two people but anymore than that and you’d really struggle.

Ship tip

Book your dinner reservations online 2 weeks before! Some venues give you a 20% discount on your total bill for doing so compared to booking while onboard.

Ports of call

Olden, Norway

5 out of 5
It’s one of the most tranquil ports. So many tours available to do! Did the glacier and it was stunning!

Alesund, Norway

4 out of 5
A lovely town, had a walk to the park and up to the observation area. Unfortunately the tour I booked with a third party was cancelled.

Haugesund

5 out of 5
Did a tour called Nordic Walking, about 11km of walking through the city and through countryside seeing the sites and getting the history along the way. Was a great day out!

Stavanger, Norway

5 out of 5
Lovely city, plenty of shops. Unfortunately we arrived late so tour was cancelled. Loads of street art around.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Super easy, just walked right off with my cases when ready.

Pros and cons to either. The only time we’ve had first dibs on arrival time was when we booked a suite, other times we’ve been in the bowels with a sea view, or higher up with a balcony, not made one iota of difference to arrival time as far as I can see. In addition, if you travel down by coach then arrival time is pretty much when you get there! Choose your own time, and then lots of others pick the same time, the. You have longer wait times anyway. Both systems are flawed, so add into that those people who just turn up when they like regardless of time, and the cruise lines doesn’t check, then it’s pretty much a free for all no matter what! 😂

Arrival time is a bit like the old class system, the cheaper the cabin ie an inside cabin, usually you go on last!
