Review summary

It was very good. Despite being caught in a Gale Force 9 Storm, the ship remained very stable and flat. Captain Wesley Dunlop was entertaining over the tannoy and is the perfect captain for dad jokes.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very fast embarking, though we went during Covid, so it wasn't running at full capacity.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Everything is online. P&O have free WiFi for their app, which you can use to book restaurants and get put into virtual queues. You can cancel a restaurant anytime and get in and out of queues with ease. The WiFi is restricted to the app however and you must pay for a package if you want WiFi for anything else.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I preferred watching the North Sea or the crew in port on my balcony, but there is a wide variety of activities available. I preferred the library because there are board games.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We went while the ship was running at half capacity, so there was an abundance of staff per capita. Now it's running normally again, I'd expect it's just enough. I hear P&O has staffing issues, which is a problem when you have two 5,200 passenger cruise ships, but I'm sure there are plenty of staff or it wouldn't be running.

Ship Quality

Very good

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The balcony is the perfect size. There are not enough coat-hangers as usual, but all P&O cruise ships are like that. The fridge is plenty big enough, and the safe was easy to use. Big enough for passports/jewellery and documents.

Ship tip

Be prepared for a large ship. You need to be fit and healthy to navigate the ship and Einstein to find your way back.

Ports of call

Haugesund

Very industrial. The bridge is worth seeing but not walking. Very steep, and on the other side, there is nothing but a rough high street. The Marilyn Monroe statue was actually quite amusing to look at. Apparently, her father was born there. Good for people with very good stamina. Everything is quite distanced.

Olden, Norway

5 out of 5
Very good for a picture of the ship. Not very populous but very touristy.

Stavanger, Norway

5 out of 5
Beautiful. Very good for just watching people. Boats coming in and out. Perfect for walking around and popping in and out of shops.

Southampton (London), England

5 out of 5
Raining as per usual with Southampton. As the Ventura left. The Iona and Ventura both sounded their horns.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
The sad part. Just as efficient if not faster than embarkation.
