Review summary

Royal Caribbean - Independence, is a wonderful experience for anyone wanting to feel like they are a valued passenger. The time, attention and personal efforts given to the passengers by the staff was exceptional. I wholeheartedly recommend this cruise.

Embarkation

Very easy and smooth. The Royal cruise team were ready to direct pax at each step

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main dining room and buffets were excellent with a plethora of food selections. The limited late night option of just pizza and pastries was disappointing. More after hour food restaurants would be great!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Hush Dance Party- favorite! TV and Music trivia was fun, although not geared towards a diverse pax base. It would be nice to consider all cultures, races, and genres of music. Many comments on how African American TV , Music and entertainment were not well represented in the activities.... please consider looking at this in the programing process.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Again, I liked the variety of entertainment activities, but I did not feel they represented all races.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
I can't score this fairly because I did not have small children on the cruise. There seemed to be things for the kids to do on the daily itinerary. Was there a daycare?

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The customer service on the Independence was top tier from the waiters, guest services, chefs, washy-washy team, and our room steward, Daniel. Daniel was outstanding. He made sure our room was clean and comfortable everyday. Being addressed by our first name from Daniel and at dinner each evening, made me feel like the staff really wanted us to feel important and comfortable. Whatever training the staff receives is absolutely worth the time and expense you invest.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
the ship was very clean with well appointed restaurants and shopping.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our room was clean and comfortable. More spacious than I anticipated. The amenities in the room were perfect. A way to heat up leftover food would be nice.

Ship tip

Bring extra funds to tip the staff, they are totally worth it!

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

4 out of 5
Miami is always a good time. The transportation vehicle area is quite congested and needs clear distinction between modes of transportation.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

4 out of 5
Very nice beach, but limited in things to see if you do not sign-up for an excursion.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
The port is fun and festive. The shops and restaurants have a variety of great momento's. The price variance from shop to shop was frustrating because I overpaid at one shop for the same item at another. I know this is how they generate money, but it seems like they are taking advantage of the visitors. The haggling and pressure to buy became offensive after a while.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Very easy although the luggage pick-up is a bit confusing. I wish the luggage tag # were grouped in and area to easily identify our luggage.
