Review summary

Too many people on Coco Cay due to two ships being in port. Same mediocre food on the ship, be we already knew that because we have taken this cruise many times. Great service by the cabin steward and concierge.

Food and Dining

The food on RCCI has always been tasteless. We only ate in the specialty restaurants. Chops was the worst, Izumi was the best but not the Hibachi, the menu.

Onboard Activities

The pools were nothing but people soup

Service and Staff

Our room steward was excellent as were our waiters. The cocktail waiters on Coco Cay were a huge disappointment as all they were interested in is selling there drink of the day. Frances was fantastic in that he actually brought us a bag of ice for our beer.

We normally stay in the Royal Suite. It was already booked so we stayed in the Owners Suite instead. The cabin size and balcony size was fine. The shower was so tiny that I have been in RV showers larger than this. I actually had to get out of the shower to lather up and shave my legs... and I'm 5'8" 140 pounds. I can't imagine if a plus size person had to use it. Plus you don't get the toiletry amenities that you get in the Royal Suite. Also a bottle champagne is not included which is insane due to the amount you pay for a 4 day cruise in the suite. We are on a 10 day cruise on Princess in a large suite for the same amount we payed for a 4 day on the Independence.

This is a great day to stay on the ship as most people get off to explore the island.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

My husband and I take this cruise because of Coco Cay. We really have enjoyed it being uncrowded and relaxing. Not this time. We were in with the Freedom of the Seas. This is the first time we were in with another ship. They arrived before we did, thank goodness we left the ship at 9AM because we just barely got a lounge chair on our favorite part of the Island, Chill Beach. By 10 AM large families were asking us when we were going to leave because there were no beach lounges to be found. We brought our own snorkeling equipment but there were so many people just standing in the water it was impossible to swim. The passengers were also very dirty and left trash on the stand. Some of the pax brought radio's and boom boxes which made it impossible to read or relax. This was so disappointing. The port we love the most was more like NYC than the Bahamas. We won't be back.

CC is not a pleasant experience when overcrowded. We've heard this from others, only way to avoid booking at peak "kids vacation" season. Else it can be a crap shoot depending on ship schedules. We have a visit in the middle of Jan after the holiday season and well before spring break.
