Before we left DK we were worried. Would Milton interfere with our flight into MIA or with our cruise. Would Icon sail or would it have to go into another unplanned maintenance. But we got there and we had a blast.
We were also a bit worried if Icon would be too much (too modern) or if it would disappoint us in any way. But we were blown away. We would definitely sail with her again (maybe we will wait until the prices lowers a bit).
None of the ports disappointed us and even though we had to skip Cococay we had a great time.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
The traffic into Port of Miami was terrible, but as soon as we got into the terminal it took about 10 minutes to get through check in and start all the fun
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The food was great. We had lunch at Izumi and it was too loud for us.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
We loved that the whirlpools where open 24/7 and the Cloud 17. There were plenty of loungers and it was more quiet than the lower pool decks. Those of us that did the water slides were excited about them.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
We were disapointed with the Wizard of Oz but we absolutely LOVED the Duelling Pianos. Janelle and James were sooo talented and good together. We only regret not going on one of the first nights.
Children's Programs
Our kids are 17 and 20 and just wanted to relax with us.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All the staff members we came into contact with were helpful and kind. We loved our room attendant and our waiters in MDR
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
We foud the ship to be clean and nice. We liked the design of the pool decks. It made the ship feel bigger and it was easy to find a lounger in a quiet place (Cloud 17)
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We loved our cabin. It was with the "old fashioned" balcony which for us is the right choice. Some of us wake up early and like to enjoy the fresh air on the balcony.
Ship tip
Go see the Duelling Pianos! There are 2 shows. The early show is "kidsfriendly". The late show was more for adults.
We did an excursion that we very much enjoyed. We had ad good time meeting the staff and animals at DJ Hangouts. We also went snorkling and the reef was so pretty. Coming from DK we are not really used to seeing such difference between rich and poor
We took the RCL Excursion to see the Chichen Itza and despite of a ferry ride and a very long busdrive this was the BEST excursion ever. Our guide Allejandro did a great job explaining the Mexican and Mayan history and culture. During the excursion he involced us by asking questions about the things ha had told us. The trip is a 9 hour trip and we made it back to port only 45 minutes before sailaway. We would not have dare to book it outside RCL.
It was very windy and after making 2 attempts of docking the Captain decided to skip it. Adventure OTS was already docked but on one was let of the ship. She left shortly after Icon. That ay the island had no cruise visitors. Of course wa were some kind of disappointed as this was the stop we had looked the most forward to. But we did know the risk when booking in hurricane season and we were given more time to spend on the ship
Glad you had a super cruise even with a hurricane out there. That Icon is quite a beauty of a ship. Enjoyed reading your review! I don’t know where DK is. I know its disappointing to miss Coco Cay, but it sounds like the rest of your cruise was pretty nice! Thanks!
