Review summary

We had a group of 12 people and we all loved it. There was something for each person to do. We swam, ice skates, attended shows, rock wall climbed, zip lines, got on the flow rider, played games, and the list goes on. I am always surprised when people go on these big ships and say there was nothing to do. There was never a dull moment!

Embarkation

We showed up as soon as they opened the port for embarkation guests even though our scheduled time wasn’t for a couple of hours (we had to return our rental, so we had nothing else to do). I figured we would sit around for a couple of hours. We got checked in right away and a couple of us went to change in the restrooms. By the time we got out it was time to get on the ship. We were already enjoying cocktails and having a blast by 11 am. It was super fast and well organized.

Onboard Activities

There was a ton to do, but you had to keep a schedule and check the planner carefully. On the Allure the staff was constantly reminding us of different activities happening around the ship, but on the Harmony they would highlight a few things during the morning announcements, and everything else was up to you to look up and remember. That was fine with us, but different from our past cruise.

Service and Staff

Francis our stateroom attendant was amazing. We had two rooms and he did an amazing job. Jeronomo in the American Icon grill was a fantastic waiter. Velina the manager in the dining room went out of her way to make sure I had a delicious vegetarian meal each night. She always came over and discussed the next days menu with me to figure out if I liked something on the menu or if she needed to order something for me. The guest services crew was amazing as well. They let us add the drink package on the 3rd day and they ended up reimbursing a bunch of the alcohol charges from the prior days even though they only charged us for day 3-7. The staff all around the ship was truly amazing!

Ship Quality

I love the design, but I though that the allure was much cleaner. The area where you walk out to the Boardwalk always smelled like garbage and the plates and cups were not cleaned well. We would have to grab a few plates before we found one that wasn’t dirty. Same with the coffee mugs.

We had two inside balcony rooms overlooking the boardwalk. For those of you wondering, yes it does get loud. My family doesn’t mind that at all, and our kids had no problems sleeping even through the Aqua show, but my sister and her family were annoyed by it and had trouble sleeping a couple of nights. I’m a light sleeper but stay up late, so by the time I went to sleep it was pretty quite. My kids slept through all the noise. Just something to keep in mind if you’re booking a Boardwalk room. (We were on the 12th deck and not too close to the aqua theater).

Ship tip

Shore excursion and the drink package were way more aboard the ship. If you’re booking through Royal, try to do it early.
