Disappointed in the cancellation of our stop in Roatan. The reason I chose this boat is because of Roatan. No compensation from Royal. In a years time this boat has been able to dock in Roatan ONCE. Take this stop off the itinerary.

Review summary

We knew prior to leaving that the Bahamas and Cozumel were not the best stops. Been to both on Royal three times now. Cozumel is trashy.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
The cruise and crew were excellent. However I gave three stars because it was not the exact cruise I wanted. Very disappointed that they say we are going to Roatan. Though the crew told me that only once were they able to dock in Roatan. That’s one out of all the times they sold this destination knowing it’s a 10% chance of going. Royal offered absolutely no compensation. None whatsoever. I would have expected a quarter of the cost be refunded. Four islands but only went to three. I will tell e eryone I know not to take this cruise with Roatan as part of the cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
All restaurants were awesome. The price for one drink is $14.99. Even for a virgin drink. Yet some places on the boat offered drinks at $7.00. Baffles me. Royal needs to lower their prices for alcohol. Especially cash buyers.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I did it all and saw all. Excellent choice of activities.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Nothing to say but Awesome. All the shows, be it water or in the Grand Theater. I fell in love e with the cast. They work very hard. And it pays off in the performances

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Room Steward was excellent. Our “ my time dining” wait staff were the best of the best. Hats off to Kevin and his assistant Pravesh. Glad they were our servers the whole cruise. We demanded seating in his area. The crew were very accommodating getting us in Kevin’s section every night. Kudos to all dining and buffet staff

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
All was clean and well maintained. But Royal does not need any larger ships. Next cruise we are stepping down on the boat size.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Needs to have a larger capacity refrigerator. Like a college dorm refrigerator. The conversation to a king bed. The sheets do not go to the end of the bed. The cover douve was of the right length. But the sheets stop about two feet from the end. Room was always cleaned. Great

Ship tip

You don’t need a travel agent to book cruises and that includes perks. Rosy offers the same benefits without paying someone over $300 to do something I can do my self. No real need for a travel agency. It was one or two calls and that was the end of my communication with . People are nieve

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
As alway. Easy on easy off. Perfect coordinations with boat and land staff.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

3 out of 5
It gets old going here. Every cruise goes there first from Canaveral. Nice private lagoon but boring.

Cozumel, Mexico

1 out of 5
This is a trashy port of call. All my Royal cruises stop there. It’s getting old and so is this stop.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

I booked this cruise specifically because of Roatan. Come to learn that we could not dock. We were 45 minutes from docking. Really really disappointed and absolutely no compensation in any form from Royal Caribbean. I heard they have only made it to dock once since they added this stop. Big let down and I feel a 25% refund should have been offered. Since we only saw three of the four stops. Actually mad that Royal does not disclose that it is rare they dock in Roatan. Shame on them. Remove this island and add another stop. Bad destination if you can’t go there anyway.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
This stop was going to be the second best stop. Roatan was the jewel to see. However our excursion was excellent. It made me happy after receiving the disappointment of canceling Roatan. If the dock cannot handle this large cruise liner don’t include this Roatan stop. It leads to thousands of disappointments from my fellow cruisers.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Smooth and uncomplicated.

Your entire review is trashy. Why book a cruise that has ports that you don't like? You book a cruise to get away from work and enjoy being away from the real world for a week with nobody telling you where to go, what time to do it, and what to do when you get there. It sounds as if you just want to complain. Also sounds as if you made some pretty bad choices by not researching before you booked. Why "demand" to sit in someone's section to eat? We asked if we could sit in the same section KNOWING that we might not be able to. We went to Roatan and thought it was great. By no means is it the best place in the world, but it was something new and we made the most of it. There is alot of construction going on so you can tell they are at least "trying" to make it a better port. Cozumel was a million times better than Roatan. Was in Cozumel two years ago and went back just a few weeks ago. In the two years that past you could tell they mad major improvements!!! Maybe cruising isn't for you?!? Find something else to complain about. The least you can do is try to find positives in every bad situation.

Seems like the grumblings of a naturally unhappy person. Right off the bat I have to question the choices of porting where you already know you don’t like. Cozumel is my favorite port, you just have to know where to go, but if you think Cozumel is trashy, Royal just saved you a HUGE disappointment by skipping Roatan. I love both places and I have heard that Honduras has came a long way in beautifying the island but last time we went it was a far cry from Cozumel. Also, we travel a lot and used to try and do all booking ourselves. We finally found a good travel agent and would not ever do our own bookings again (except a simple cruise, that’s pretty easy to do). Our agent always finds us special deals and has saved us lots of money and plenty of major hassle. And she keeps a look out for better deals and will switch us when she finds better. I think you could benefit on maybe finding a good agent that could help you get the best out of your travels and at least let you know what to expect where you are going.

WTH are you talking about re: the travel agent?? Makes ZERO sense

You don't get a refund for missing a port. You don't pay for the ports you pay for the cruise. Royal has been docking at Roatan for years so not sure who you spoke to.

Why would you keep going to porch that you say you don’t enjoy? There are lots of places to go in the Caribbean other than the Western Caribbean ports. And I am confused about your comment about not using a travel agent. I usually book through an online agency and have never been charged a fee by a travel agent.
